What I believe you're talking about are what Fender called the "international" colors. As far as I recall, Fender stated these colors were only going to be available for 2 months when they were introduced (this may have been late 1982.) The colors that were introduced were a red, orange, yellow, blue & gray. All colors had white pickguards. They all had unique names, and were bright like M&M's (the gray was like the gray used in the Antigua finish, but was a solid color.) These colors were $100 more than the standard colors.
Lo and behold, Fender decided to sell these colors for the following year (no longer limited to just 2 months.) The real kicker was that Fender decided that black and white would now be part of the "international color" series, so they added an extra $100 for black or white that year (which was pure B.S.)
