Fender Precision Special necks

A couple quick questions:

1) Do they only come in maple?
2) Although they have a jazz width nut, do they tend to be thicker than a jazz neck in general, back to front?

Which version of the Precision Special do you refer to?

(year, country of manufacture, etc.)

Not really sure. There have been a few for sale in the classifieds and they all seem to be maple/maple. I wouldn't mind trying a precision special neck, but I'd much prefer rosewood if such a thing exists.

As to my question about its dimentions and feel, that's just a general poll-type questions to gauge ppls opinions on the neck.

I will assume you are talking about the fretboard being rosewood or maple.

The Precision Bass Special of the early 80s was made in America with pre-amp, a single P pickup, gold hardware, a maple Precision width neck that had either a maple or rosewood fretboard, and matching paint on the headstock. Some were made of walnut, and these are considered very valuable.

The later Deluxe Precision Bass Special is/was made in Mexico. They have P pickup, a J bridge pickup, a gold pickguard, and a Jazz width neck. They were originally passive, and the newer ones have a pre-amp.

There have been different FSR Precision Bass Specials as well, made in America or Mexico, P or PJ pickups, and different necks/fretboards.

I'm not looking for some crazy in depth answer that involves mathematics or anything. I'm only asking if the necks also come in rosewood and what ppl who have used these types of necks think of them. I suppose the problem was that i assumed that most folks around here would know what i meant when i said that the ones I've seen have all been maple/maple and that I'd prefer rosewood.

For today's "active" bassist, Fender® offers the stylish and thunderous Deluxe Series Active Precision Bass® Special guitar. This huge-sounding hybrid model features an alder body with a single-ply beveled gold vinyl pickguard and a maple Jazz Bass® guitar neck (modern C shape) with a 20-fret, 9.5"-radius rosewood or maple fingerboard. Aboard are a standard alnico split single-coil Precision Bass pickup (middle) and a dual-coil ceramic Noiseless™ Jazz Bass pickup with nickel-plated pole pieces (bridge) with pan pot switching. Glad I could help.

My point was that there have been completely different Fender basses that have used the name "Precision Bass Special".

The available options on one model are not necessarily the same as the options on another.

The information that "Nobody" posted for you is for the current MIM active version still available new for purchase.

What he posted does not apply to other Fenders that have used the name Precision Bass Special.

You need to know which version before one can tell you what was available on it.
