Fender Precision with dual pups..?

Hey fellow TB'rs,

I just spotted this bass on CL and thought it looked interesting. I'm going to call the guy tomorrow, but in the mean time....

Have any of you seen a bass like this before? Is it worth the drive (he's 2 hours away) or is it just a homemade jobber? At first I thought it was one of those Elite II basses by Fender, but all the pics I found have the pups straight and not angled like in the picture. It looks like there are a couple switches too.

Any info would be cool or even a guesstimated value?

thanks...

Just got a hold of the guy selling it...turns out it's already sold..bummer. He let it go for $250. If he would have been closer, I would have tried to snag it last night. Oh well, I'll save my $$$ for my trip to Buffalo next week. Maybe I'll find something interesting there.

If you're in the market for a dual pickup P bass, check out the Blacktop P bass. I played one at my local Sam Ash, and it's pretty fierce. \m/

I may be preaching to the choir, and you guys might know all about it.. but thought I might chime in, and from what I understand, it's pretty new.

Yeah the Blacktop Fender basses are new and cool.

I played both for a considerable amount of time, like fourty five minutes each.

The P bass has the NYC style-ish dual J soapbar type pickups.

The Blacktop J bass on the other hand, has twin P bass pickups, one at the bridge and one at the neck. The neck one is very noticeably more mellow sounding and the bridge is very cool. This is not a traditional J bass, with the twin P bass pickups, but it looks real cool and feels great in my hands, plus the sound can be very mellow or turn up the treble and adjust the amp and it can rip.

The Blacktop P bass was not inherently as mellow, but tweaking the amp or using a pedal could defintiely get it in the same range as the Blacktop J I'm sure.

You might want to look at both of them and not automatically discount the Blacktop J until you have tried it, you might be surprised, like I was.

GC might not have them though, but a regular Fender dealer should.
