Yes, this was discussed, but those prices are still shocking. The American basses are into Nash territory, which is crazy.

I work in manufacturing and I can tell you that the shipping costs for everyone are off the charts expensive. Full shipping containers are eight times the price of what they were two years ago. And they’re likely not going back down any time soon. My company has had to raise prices three times in the last year and a half. A small company like FENDER is not immune to these high shipping and material costs. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised at all if they do another price adjustment before NAMM in June.

Nah. In Europe, we’ve been paying those prices for a goodish while. In my neck of the woods, you can add at least another hundred even to the Player series. With the state of world trade being what it is, I’m actually surprised it isn’t more.

Oh - and calling MIM Fenders junk might be a bit of a stretch, too, IMHO.

Nah. In Europe, we’ve been paying those prices for a goodish while. In my neck of the woods, you can add at least another hundred even to the Player series. With the state of world trade being what it is, I’m actually surprised it isn’t more.

Oh - and calling MIM Fenders junk might be a bit of a stretch, too, IMHO.

In the global economy it's difficult to try and compare the prices for luxury goods with cost of living, average wages, healthcare, taxes, etc. etc. etc. all being so wildly different.

Maybe someone can analyze average relative take-home pay compared to the cost of a standard MIA Fender in each country, and call it the "True Fender Cost Index"

Side note - I loved my time in Norway. It almost made me envious that some people get to wake up in that part of the world every day... until the winters hits!

Which just means Nash price increases will inevitably follow, same as every other makers' will (if they haven't already). OTOH, not everyone thinks Nash basses are reasonably priced to begin with....or EBMM, or Rickenbacker, or Warwick,...ad infinitum.

That gap is comforably filled by the hundreds of J and P style models made by the many other competing brands. All the while rivaling many of the >$800 USD Fender offerings.

The >2000 USD top end is now in the "I'd rather order custom" or from an actual luthier territory.

Whatever the reasons behind the hike up in prices it just makes it harder, to justify is that bass really worth that amount of money. I paid £1,171.00 for my Am.Std P "new" back in Jan 2015 & had second thoughts then , now in Jan 2022 the price is £1,637 I would be looking at secondhand.

My stance is that I’m really glad that I don’t need anymore instruments.
In the past I’ve gone out on a limb with financing to get what I was after knowing eventually, the prices are going to climb and I would have regretted not taking the leap. Sure it’s meant that for a short period I would have to watch my budget a little closer but it has (‘a-hem’) paid off in the long run. Now, I look at a few pieces of gear and am happy to say the value has doubled and with none of it has depreciation happened.
Inflation and value increase is historically consistent with just about everything.
