Fender Prices-Confirmation

Just got an e-mail from Musician's Friend that Fender prices have dropped.
Could be good for some, or not so good. Could add bargaining power or be an incentive to buy.
I don't know, there are so many used Fenders on craigs in great condition, that I can't help feeling that, used ,is the way to go.
Good luck out there.
And remember, "love the one you're with."

I checked the MF and GC websites. They have dropped the prices on some models as of today. Looks like the MIM P and Js have dropped by $50ish and the MIA P is $1299 so that's what, $100ish drop. Not all the models have dropped though.

Fender has increased their prices so many times that it's like gas nowadays. The fact that the USA jazz has gone up about $300 in the past 4 or so years then a drop of 100 makes everyone go crazy, even though they've still increased quite a bit over the past few years.

Then again, what else hasn't skyrocketed in price?

Is this actually a Fender price drop, or is it a MF sale?

Price confirmation from the old continent:

On Thomann.de, a life-saver for many european musicians and a mega online store that offers the lowest prices, the Fenders have not dropped in price.
It still is about 19% under the list price as it was the last years.
No special sales on any Fender.

So it might be that MF is offering special sales on their own account.
Best thing is to see if other mega online stores in the US or anywhere else are doing the same price drops.

But, I suspect this is just sale from one company to get out some stock.

I remember reading something that one of the uppers at Gibson said some years ago about Les Pauls... he claimed that they were having trouble selling Les Pauls until they raised the prices. Once the prices were raised, the demand went way up. I wondered if that's what Fender was trying to do. They must have realized how laughable those prices were when you could get a G&L for (nearly) the same price.

As noted, Fender has lowered prices on selected models. The more interesting ones ('51 Precision RI, '75 Jazz, etc) haven't gone down.

As to why they did it: probably to make money. You can over-analyze [that's from the same root as anal, after all] but no doubt they saw their costs go up, and raised prices in order to cover them. The fact that they lowered some prices is a natural response to the market.

As is the fact that, say, the '51 P wasn't lowered in price: I checked craisglist and found exactly 2 used ones for sale in the entire state of Texas (and add one more, on eBay, nationwide) and I'm sure they sell all they can make. No sense putting one like that on sale.

It was only a month ago that there were threads saying the '51 and Sting were being discontinued!

I see the Highway One went down about $150 on MF. Still too much!
