Fender Rascal Bass - Truss rod

I really like the look of the Rascal, but I hate the name. I can easily imagine the other possible names they considered before picking it...Scallywag, Scamp, etc.
I think someone really dropped the ball on this one...they should've gone with Fender Wave.

Wave is cool Goes along with the surf look. Or maybe call it the Ocean or Pipeline or Wipeout.

I think it was the MIJ short-scale Jazz Basses he/she was referring to as no longer in production, not the MIM Rascal.

Cool - enjoy. Where did you get it? Last I heard they stopped making them. They're going for big bucks now.

I got it off Canadian e-bay. I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to order another one before I let it out of the bag.

As much as I love it, I have my sights on a different make of bass.

As for cost. I was the same as Rascal (and for a little better quality), but the $200 duty put it over the top.

The prices are starting to creep up even further in just a week.

I got mine factory fresh from Japan on eBay a few months ago - black - cost $700 with shipping. I was the first one to open the factory crate. I put another $150 into it for strings and some work by a pro to make it nicer. Sounds and plays great. It's in my avatar and my album.

Since then the prices have gone up 50%. They charge more based on the color... There is white one on Amazon for $1500. When they were in production I think they were about $400.

It's small so it's not my #1, but I really like it and I don't plan on letting it go.

I take it you've never owned a Squier then, eh? I mean with a little sandpaper and a custom decal and and some clear coat you've got yourself the one and only Fender Wave! I don't dislike the name Rascal but I can't deny that Wave would be an appropriate name too. Now I do not endorse "rebadging" Squiers into Fenders under any circumstances and my current and any future Squiers will always wear their Squier brand names proudly, but as we know people here on TB do this and changing the model name to suit you while keeping the brand name correct strikes me as more eccentric than felonious. You'd still have to explain that when you sold it of course.

Actually, since the Rascal doesn't have any model name badging on the headstock other than "Fender", you can put whatever name on it that you want to. It has the same decal as the Deluxe models (the logo is raised metallic), so just make one up that goes along, and you'd be all set.

I agree. I was just pointing out for the players that think it should have a different name, that they could basically name it whatever they want to

Been eyeing the Fender Rascal. From the looks of it, it's one of those shorties that you have to remove the neck to adjust the truss rod - something I hate, especially since the Fender factory set-up is generally pretty lousy, and I will also probably change the strings if I get one.

Judging from these pics, the truss rod is buried in the body down at the end of the neck, and there is no hole in the headstock.

Can anybody confirm this?

Yeah, I never understand when they design it like that... Not very user-friendly

However when I changed strings, I just unscrewed the pickguard, took the neck off, and used a fairly large drill bit to do a semi route at an angle in both the body and the very front edge of the pickguard. Took all of 10 minutes, looks fine, and now I can adjust the bass with the strings on and a flat head screwdriver just going in an angle in front of the neck pickup.

Otherwise love the bass, I'm a short scale player so this is a good length, and it never fails get comments whenever I play it hi finesse just got such a funky retro look to it and very comfortable to play.
