Something has happened to my Rumble 40. For the better. Some of you may have noticed my posts slightly disparaging my Rumble 40. Wondering how I had been taken by all the hype and how muddy and blah it sounded.

Well, something has changed in the last couple days. I had been experimenting with different damping and port tuning. A layer on the back and sides did a lot of good. Then plugging one port made more improvement but I was trying somewhere between stock and one port closed to find an even better tuning. While the change of tuning had helped the mud-inducing low-end bump, any sense of character was still missing.

So, Friday night I was playing with stock porting and something seemed different. It actually sounded good. My bass now sounded like my bass. The Vintage button was actually useful instead just creating more undefined mud. I tried the Bright button. Hmm, I could use that at times. Contour, well, verdict is still out on Contour. I tried the Overdrive and set it to just be audible when I dig in. Hmm, ok.

My only guess is that the speaker is finally turned a corner on breaking in. I had played it before with the same damping and stock tuning and it just wasn’t like this. Anyone think that is the likely reason?

BTW, the amp likely sat in a storage unit at the music store for 14 months before I bought it. I went with the gentleman when he got it out of the unit. And then later noticed the date on the box was Oct 2016. Not sure if that would have had any effect on the speaker cone material or not.

As you say,"wherever you go,etc" True. But when you look at a map that says"You are here" how do they know that?

Does Fender make a cover for the 500 Wat combo V3? It appears that they do not. I was told that the 200/500/stage cover will not fit it. What solutions have you guys used?

I bought these beautiful TUKI Covers for my 500C and the 115 cab as well. Great solidly well made covers. I'm glad I got mine.

I have bigger Neo cabs and small amps for larger gigs.
I played the Rumble 100 and was really impressed; it will knock my old metal case G&K combo off the loist for smaller gigs.

Question: Is the 200 THAT much better? Haven't had a chance to try one yet and not sure if saving the $100 is a good thing (as opposed to s stupid thing).

Just be aware you're only gaining 40 Watts unless you run a extension cabinet:

looks like you also get a tweeter and a jump from 12 -> 15 inch speaker

Yep...I use the first one..Custom Covers. Its a nylon material thats has some light padding, protects well from nicks and dings, folds up nicely and has handle openings. Made right here in Sunny Michigan.

I was looking at the TUKI Covers just yesterday for my Stage 800. Like RANDALLPHISH mentioned, on the website the covers look a little weird to me too, but user photos look much nicer.
2 Questions for you Giffro:

Are you the guy from South Africa that has given the only review for the Rumble 500 cover on the TUKI website? Just seems like too much of a coincidence. If it is you, can you expand a bit on what you like about the TUKI?

And, do you like the pocket on the front of the case? I was worried about something in the pocket jabbing into the most sensitive part of my amp.

To me, there was a large jump in performance(and tone) going from the 100 to the 200, then a tiny jump in performance - and a backstep in tone - going from the 200 to the 500... Granted, the tone thing is totally subjective, but that's how it seemed to me...

The overall performance difference between the 100 and 200 are most likely due to going from a 12 to a 15, and the slightly larger cab size...

My thoughts, 25, 40 if you want line out, 100 if you want to add effects loop in and out, 200 if you want to add an extension 500 if you want volume.
Any of them for just because.

I have to say I prefer the tone of the 500 over the 200. I tried them side by side.

Does Fender have plans for the Rumble 800 in a Head or will they just have the combo?

Also... if y'are in Aus... company called Glove covers made mine for my 500C. Fits perfectly and is...again afaik.... same as the Tuki covers. Nylon and padded.

The 200 was the best sounding one of the bunch to me - but I also tend to prefer 15s...

I traded up up from the 200c to the 500c a few months back. Aside from the increase in volume, I find the 500 to be a little tighter and bit more focused sounding.A bit less boomy than the 200 Imo.
