I have a question, this might sound stupid or has been addressed before, but I thought i would ask here because you guys are the rumble experts.
I have a first generation Fender Rumble 15, the ones with the rat fur on them. It's old and beat up, but I absolutely love the tone I get coming out of it. So much, I've often toyed with the idea of using it during a live show or recording by running a direct line to the board, and putting a mic on the cab. I know there isn't any low end, but I just really like the tone it puts out.
So, third paragraph in my question is, can I get that tone stack or sound from the bigger rumbles? I was backlined a Rumble 100 about 2 years ago for an acoustic show and I wasn't impressed, it was just too dark sounding. I was playing a Jaco Sig jazz with flatwounds, but the amp just didn't have character that Rumble 15 had.
All I know is if I could get that sound in a cab with a little more low end, and at 200watts or higher, I'd be a happy camper. I use the Rumble strictly as a bedroom practice amp, and let my GK, trace Elliott, or Ampeg rigs to the heavy lifting at gigs, but I'd sure like to have some of that tone I get from that thing pumped through the mains.
