Fender Rumble Club

Speaking of the Rumble OD. Y'all might be interested to know I found a pedal which is pretty similar but. ... ... unlike the little Fender amp button it doesn't require extra cables outside the pedalboard.

Uh, ... mmm, ..., but, BBBBassy, how does the Rumble OD require extra cables? Nosy ..., uh, that is, enquiring minds wanna know.
.

I'm assuming the reference is to the cabled pedal/switch to toggle the OD. I use it as a MUTE.

Ok, to be fair, for the same stompbox convenience the Rumble OD does require 1 cable, but it takes no room on or power from the pedalboard.

But I almost always have the OD on for some gentle warmth. So I just turn a knob for more or less fuzz without ever using the pedal.

OD off as mute is fine for me.
I used to use OD on one song we don't do any more. Therefore OD=mute.

I'm embarrassed to say I've been a voyeur for several months. It's well past time for me to join the Rumble Club. Here is my Rumble40 (and a BX1 Four pedal that I really don't need). The R40 and the flexibility of it's settings are more than I can ever exhaust. The advice and expertise on this forum are a fantastic resource.

This is true, but it is an extra thing to hook up and find floor space for. If I didn't run a pedalboard it wouldn't be a big deal. I've also dabbled with running the OD as always on. Sounds really good with the Dimension, gain and drive set to min, vintage engaged, and EQ flat. Usually though I just leave the OD job to one of my 3 pedals.

Anyway I just thought people might be interested in an option to move a good OD from the amp to the pedalboard while getting a similar sound. Nothing wrong with having more dirt options too. Including my Rumble I have 6.:bassist:

I've read where many musicians simply add their amp footswitch to their pedalboard,. But I can see where the controls being on the amp could seem counterintuitive, compared to most pedals' controls near their switches.

I'm all for options! I've got a Boss GT-6B board and a Line 6 Bass Pod XT Live board. But I find I much prefer my effects built-in to the amp, as on my Fender B-DEC 30 and Rumble Studio 40 modeling amps (and my Fender Cyber-Deluxe guitar amp with Cyber Foot Controller!). And, so far, controlling the effects on my Studio via a tablet takes the cake for versatility and convenience for me! YMMV.

For guitar having all of it built into my Boss Katana 50 is awesome, but I only play guitar at home and on my recordings. So I can just fiddle with some things, get the sound I want and play. (I pretty much do this with bass too at home.)

For bass I used to primarily play in a band. One who had no interest in waiting for me to even tune. So I just really needed efficiency but I also love/need various effects. Hence the pedalboard.

If for whatever reason my band decides to part ways post COVID I could very much see me selling off the whole shibang and going to a Rumble Studio 40, especially if I can manage the sounds on my phone (it's been a long time since I've looked at the Studio amps).

If I'm honest I don't really care for gigging or long rehearsals or dealing with other people in general anymore. So I guess it's not a matter of if I downsize, but when. lol

At my age, I'm with you on that except that I want to "feel" music...something, for me, that is hard to do when playing alone to recordings. When this COVID winds down, I wouldn't mind jam sessions which is why I haven't down sized yet. Selling my Studio 40 would be the last thing I would do.

Finally bought an American Fender bass two weeks ago and haven't been able to put it down. Found a clearance (New) 2019 Fender American Professional Jazz Bass in Candy Apple Red from GC. It pairs up perfectly with my Rumble 410c and Rumble 800hd. View attachment 4194775
Upgraded to a more comfy bed

For sure. In terms of getting that feel nothing beats a real band. I haven't played with the band in just over a year now and to be honest I do not miss that feel. I haven't had the desire to go to a concert in far longer too.

After a while of being overwhelmed by volume I very quickly slip from the musician part of me that's having a blast to the part that's just overwhelmed by noise. So I stop enjoying it, and then my health problems flare up over time. Especially if I'm trying to stand in one spot with a bass hanging off me for 3 hours. Though even just noise can really suck the life out of me. Protest the Hero had the worst sound guy when I saw them so it just felt like the drummer was using me as his drum kit while I was being attacked by a wall of inaudible distortion. Super disappointing and draining.

Rush on the flipside was incredible. I was seated, the sound guys were brilliant, and the musicians and music was superb(some of it even made it onto the R40 DVD). But I find experiences like that to be very rare.

OK, I haven't played with a band for almost 50 years. With COPD and then COVID, I am hoping that the odd jam might be possible and enjoyable. I have a folding stool so I am ready for my second COVID shot and the jam clubs to open up :thumbsup:.

I agree with your assessment of loud bands. On top of everything else, I found hearing aids were necessary 30 years ago ;).

Sounds like you've developed more mature ears. You should seek out more mature musicians! Seriously, I've really enjoyed playing at church and the local "bluegrass" (& C&W) jams even though neither is my favorite music. But, you just can't beat playing with live people, especially when some of them are pretty dang good, and make you wanna improve to their level!

And, not that the name would apply to you but, you may be interested in the "Grumpy Old F@rts" Club here on TB. There's really only one or two there that fit the bill and the rest are quite interesting, ... uh, ... at least most of the time.

Yep, I am waiting for my ears to "mature" :D.

I like the idea that I could turn hearing aids off. I've got fancy earbuds that can kind of do the same, which is fun.;)

Good luck with the jams!

More mature ears indeed. I could see me in the future looking to find more "mature" musicians as well. Do I count as a grumpy old fart at 30? I certainly feel old and I guess grumpy is a polite way of putting it. lol:thumbsup:

I can assure you that grumpiness is not age dependent.

Hi, this is my 1st post...I just picked up an almost new 210 Rumble cab & i am looking for a head to go with it...I would love to hear from anyone who owns a Rumble 800 head, particularly if you are using it in a working band or practicing with a band....I just want some feedback regarding the head before i make my final decision...I have used a GK 800RB since the late 90s and need a change, lol....It has never let me down so giving it up for a new amp is going to be hard...

I assume you are talking about the GK when you mention clank...I hope you are right but none of the later GKs ever worked as well or sounded as good as the 800RB...Had a few mates with the later models & they all thought the same thing.....If the Fender sounds better than the GK I will be very happy, particularly if the power is comparable...I have read where a couple of players said the Fender has a very scooped sound & say you have to run the bass & mid up very high to compensate...didn't know what to make of that ?

Don't know what to make of that either lol, bet it sounded horrible!
They're a good amp but voiced very differently than GK, would suggest you try before you buy.
Maybe ask the GK club if it's a good idea, (taken with a grain of salt!).

Edit: Here we go, this guy gets close to the Rumbles' clean, 12o'clock, 'out the box' tone when he turns those filters off.

Then he ruins the vid by slapping!! :smug:
