So I did two out door gigs this weekend with my Rumble 500 combo and Rumble 115 extension cab. I have to say that I am still not there with the sound I prefer but not giving up. For these two gigs I added an old favorite... Korg Tone Works AX30B "bass processor", utilizing the "Bright Bass" program preset. First let me say that loudness/volume is not an issue. Low, Low Bass tone is not the issue either. It's the high end treble side as I have reported before. I gets thin as you attempt to get some mid high to high end articulation. I find that runs with notes played on the first 7 - 9 frets are almost indistinguishable, mushy and inarticulate. Any way the 115 and Tone Works pedal did help as was noticed by myself and the rest of the band.
BTW we are not a loud band...my volume (master) never got above 10:00. I tried Gain settings between zero and 9:00. Bass settings between 8 and 10 o'clock, Mid's between 11 and 2 o'clock, Treble between 11 and 3 o'clock. I tried a few pre sets on the Korg, "Lows & Highs", "Bright", "Mid-Pik'n" and "FatnLow". I settled on the bright setting which I used for many years with the Acoustic 370/408 set up. On the Rumble I tried all combinations of preset buttons settling on the bright and vintage at the same time. Once again the sound I am seeking is a bright piano like round wound sound with full bottom. A tough sound to get apparently.
Anyway the images show the stage for our Sunday afternoon show. Nice stage with guitar hangers. Our band leader and lead guitarist was using an early 60's Fender Bassman!

And another thing. The post that GP made regarding Flat Rumble EQ's is confirmed in the Rumble Wiki...

Have any of you tried these as compared to everything a 12 o'clock? As counter-intuitive as it may seem, I have tried these settings and they have worked wonders. I don't know what Fender was thinking when they developed these amps, but fortunately their customers figured it out!
and then I adjust from there depending on how I "think" it sounds that particular day, as I hear it differently each day for some reason
For me, I start with the 'default' 10, 2, 2, 10, VINTAGE and BRIGHT(maybe)and tweak to the room. If I happen to be using the EB-0, a little less on LO's, and more HI's.Quite a bit of flexibility, IMO, on the tones you can get from a Rumble. And I find I use very different settings for different basses. 2 builds I have, a short scale P bass (naturally more "bassy" for some reason), and a short scale J bass (naturally more hi mids/trebly for some reason), are very different. I'll have to look again and check exactly, but I think I usually have the P bass with 9, 1, 2, 12, and the J bass with 11, 3, 2, 10 and I end up with similar, but different tones, if that makes any sense at alland then I adjust from there depending on how I "think" it sounds that particular day, as I hear it differently each day for some reason
A third combination for the Ibanez TMB30, although I use that the least, and may end up selling it, though it sounds great.
Then some days I'll just throw one or two dials most, or all the way one way or the other and get some great interesting "other" tones that some days I love, and other days I think WTH?!?!![]()
Agreed, that's where I started with both, based on your recommendations. Forgot all about the vintage (almost always on) etc buttons, they changed the tone as well. The bright I use more on the P bass. But then, all of this is in home tones, playing out further tweaking would be required. For me, I start with the 'default' 10, 2, 2, 10, VINTAGE and BRIGHT(maybe)and tweak to the room. Yeah, if we/I start picking up some gigs(it figures things open up as our 'season' ends-Agreed, that's where I started with both, based on your recommendations. I do love my wireless Line 6 G10 so I can walk away and here the tones from distance as opposed to right on top of the amp, big change there as well.
), I'm gonna hafta break down and get an "El Cheapo" wireless so I can hear what I sound like out front. Then again, maybe I'm better off not knowing. Hmm...If I can see you guys Friday, I'll bring mine, and get there early during setup so you can play around with it.Yeah, if we/I start picking up some gigs(it figures things open up as our 'season' ends-), I'm gonna hafta break down and get an "El Cheapo" wireless so I can hear what I sound like out front. Only time I turn it on is if I'm running the CD player on breaks. As the "book of words" says, may add unwanted distortion. Nope. For all you guys wanting more treble, do you have the tweeter on?

I had a 'peg b112 for awhile. It had a scrambler. I tried it-once.Well, there are other things that cause unwanted distortion. Why does Ampeg's Scrambler come to mind?

Once you get the 210 I think you will love it!I am with you and know exactly what your talking about but it's hard to explain. I have the Rumble 500 combo with a 115 extension speaker (I'm waiting for a back ordered 210). I'm used to a piano like bright round wound string sound while still maintaining a big bottom. That's a tall order that my Acoustic 370/408 and Eden WT400/410XLT provided with ease. Unfortunately I have been unable to get there with The Rumble. I'll post a gig report...
Yeah it's the first time I've seen it. He was a bass player in his past lifeWow! Beautiful old Bassman amp! Belong to the guitar player? I it's plugged in to the "Normal" channel instead of the "Bass Instrument" channel.
.
Counting on it!Once you get the 210 I think you will love it!

When I got back from the Army in '72, my '63 Fender Jazz and '64 brownface Bassman were gone. My mother GAVE them away. Along with my Farfisa Mini.Yeah it's the first time I've seen it. He was a bass player in his past life
