Fender Rumble Club

...paying a little more (and getting a little less power & EQ control!) they look pretty good....

Agree! Where do I sign up?

‘Dog, your specs are spot-on and your opinions are relevant, but there’s that nagging phrase you typed right before my quote here and it is, “And for those who want that Ampeg tone...”

That’s the main reason some will choose the ‘Peg over the Rumbler. Pure tonal preference, it is. Also, while I’m not a fan of the Scrambler at all (yuck!), I’m not real high in the Rumble’s OD either.

Maybe I just don’t like added distortion circuitry, but I’m reading that the SGT voodoo is actually musical and not a can of buzzing bees. That remains to be heard by me before deciding, but could be another factor towards the RB.

And yeah, it’s kinda embarrassing that it took Ampeg this long to create what looks to be competitive combos, yet another way to look at it didn’t Yamaha very long at all to make this two-team race interesting again.

Who knows what Fender will have in store for us next? How about tube preamps throughout the line? Or something like VOX’s NuTube circuit? Or perhaps a tweed look like the TV line ran with? All neat ideas. The Rumble line is getting long in the tooth so I’ll predict 2022 as the unveiling of the new Fender Space Force line to keep up with Ampeg in our bass combo race! :hyper:
Space Force is a funny show but I think we need the Spaceballs lineup first!

Hey all, looking for some settings recommendations.

I'm playing a hard rock blues funk original band. Mixture of all of the above. I'm playing a Sire P7 five-string into a Markbass Compressore, and a Markbass Mini Boost pedal. That all then goes into my Fender Rumble 500 combo 2x10 that has the Fender Rumble 2x10 extension cabinet hooked up.

With all the tone buttons, Vintage, Bright, Contour clicked off, and everything else flat, I'm not getting as much bright high end as I would like. I dialed in a little mid high and treble, but then when I play slap and pluck the higher strings, the sound is way too much and bites too much.

It feels like the compressore is not doing its job on the high end stuff... I'm not sure.

Anyway just looking for some tips. Thanks!

They messaged me (and I hope @Black Out Jazz doesn't mind me mentioning this) and explained it was out of curiosity. I had no intention of starting anything with anyone and should have considered my words better.

The US and especially where they live has very different views on masking in public to where I live. And I figure if anyone's curious I can kind of layout where Ontario is right now. Seeing as I didn't actually address that part of their curiosity.

We're under stay-at-home orders until Wednesday, and our lockdown is set to start lifting on June 14th. Classes are closed but may open for the last few weeks. Our case counts are high and our ICUs are still crowded but over 60% of our people have their first vaccine dose with over 100 000 added to that list daily and second doses starting as well. My city has a mask mandate in place until December of this year with little intention of changing that. However I was just at the park and not a single person was wearing a mask. Plenty of social distancing, and lots of people because it's nice but no masks.

When dealing with strangers I plan on masking until I and my family have had both doses. People I know may be another case but as far as I know no one's released any guidelines or recommendations for people with only one dose.

Anyway I apologize to everyone for derailing the thread. Let's Rumble on!
I apologize to everyone as well.

And for those who want that Ampeg tone. Nope.
I don’t actually mind the Ampeg tone, though I prefer the Rumble. I usually don’t have much trouble dialling in the tone I need, no matter what the amp. Our rehearsal place has recently installed some Aguilar rigs, I’ll be interested to try them out (once we’re allowed to rehearse again, that is).

Just postulating here, but if outside keeping respectable distances, given that there is normally some air movement, two reasonably sane individuals would position themselves so that air movement would be from the side, what possible use would a mask serve? Not trying to be flippant. Wearing masks outside seems ridiculous to me if you aren’t panting on each other. Additionally, if you already had COVID, you have antibodies that I would postulate are more effective than an engineered vaccine. My 2 cents.
In Oslo, masks are compulsory at the moment if you cannot keep a distance of 1m to other people. I have control over my own position, but not that of others, so masking up makes sense. Also, I’d rather be safe than sorry, not just for my own sake, but that of others.

Gentlemen, please ...

This is not the place to debate our views and preferences on the status of pandemic protocols. Let's all, please, just allow everyone else the courtesy of their own perspectives on that.

This is The Fender Rumble Club. Let's please stay a bit closer to that topic, shall we?

These are the types of hotbed issues that can get TB members suspended, and I wouldn't wish that anyone.

Thank you for staying civil.

My apologies if I have offended anyone.

With my 500c, would I notice much difference in tone if I add a 115 cab? Or would I just be getting more volume, which I don’t need. I’m really looking for more of a fuller tone and wondered if the 115 would provide that.
When I had my extension cab(Rumble 112),I was somewhat surprised at the increased fullness that it added to my R200c. Yes, it could be louder, but mostly filled the room and for a similar volume allowed the VOLUME setting to be lowered as appropriate to the room where we were playing. It also allowed the R200s's 15'' speaker to be up a coupla feet and be better heard.
For our group, what and where we play, and the fact that it's all one-niters, the 112 wasn't needed and I was able to sell it at a very slight profit to someone else who really wanted it.

I would think either a 115 or a 210 extension would add a fuller tone. Fatter maybe. Volume would be available but not necessary as the only byproduct of adding speakers.

I've added a Bassman NEO 115 to my R500c for some outdoor gigs and it was definitely fuller. I was shocked, shocked I tell you, that the extra volume was not needed! Didn't get to crank it like I'd hoped. But the feel of all that power sure was fun!!

I've added a 210 to my 500c. This set-up may give more volume but I don't crank the amp so high as to benefit. However, what it does give is more 'presence' or 'weight' to the sound, and it also gets a speaker closer to ear-level which I find is very beneficial (although I could just put the combo on a chair to achieve this). I guess that now I'm not having to drive anything so hard to achieve the same volume level as when just using the combo, so it feels as though the extra speaker allows the system to cruise along, well within itself. Plus having 2 boxes looks cooler than just having one, so on that basis alone it's a no-brainer.

So, yakky, you got rid of the R500h head for the R500c combo? And with a 210 extension cab, too?? Well, show us a pic of that awesome rig and get a free membership to The Club with keys to the Kingdom of Rumble wisdom and knowledge.

Check the Rumble Club Wiki for some setting recommendations and remember that "flat" is BASS-10, LO MID-2, HI MID-2, TREBLE-10(o'clock), not all at "noon", then tweak HI MID(first)and see if that works. Also try turning the tweeters off/on to hear what differences that makes. In 7enders manual they say that the tweeters may add unwanted distortion. Mine's always off.

Thank you all. Fuller sound is what I am after, I guess tone wasn’t the right word. I guess that settles it; I’ll make the long early morning drive to pick one up on Tuesday.

Just beware that the 115 cab is a bit bigger than the 210 cab (and the R500c) , though they both weigh the same. To some visually OCD bassists that makes a significant difference.

[whisper] Shhh, Goner! Don't give away the "milk" or no one will ever buy the (free membership) "cow"! [/whisper]

One other comment re SVT rigs: I sat in with a band playing much heavier rock than I usually play. Their bass man had an SVT/2x810 rig. Yeah, 16 10's. The thing was LOUD plus I could feel my pants legs moving in the air it pushed. Definitely the biggest rig I ever played through. Didn't want it though.:rollno:

I use an SVT rig fairly often. It’s a 6x10 and more than loud enough. :)
