Fender Rumble Club

Ok, now lemme get this straight. RL, I really don't mean to complicate it for you but, you can add two 8 ohm cabs, or one 4 ohm cab, to your Rumble Stage 800 combo! That's what the impedance switch, next to the Extension Speaker connection, on the back is for. Up for a single 8 ohm cab rated 400 watts (or more), and Down for a 4 ohm load of cab(s) rated 500 watts (actually 533, or more). [Rumblers, please correct me if I mis-state anything here.]
The 4 ohm load works like this:
  1. If you add two 8 ohm cabs, then that 800 watts is equally split 3 ways into "just" 267 watts each; which is well within the 300 watt rating of the Rumble 115 cab!!! OooOoo! The 210 combo driving two 115 cabs would be muy bueno! :D
  2. But, if you add just one 4 ohm cab, it would get 2/3 of the 800 watts, or 533 watts! So, just file that away in case you ever consider a 4 ohm cab. (It could happen.)
Enjoy, my Rumblin' brother.
.

More options! (Far more than I'll ever need.) Pretty sure the 2 10s and 400 Watts will be more than enough for any gig I can imagine for the foreseeable future, as we probably won't be ready to gig until the weather starts turning just a bit, so it'll likely be indoor gigs at first. But maybe next spring when the weather gets good again .....

We just have different ideas of what a bass should sound like. I may have to cut loose from this group.
This is so true, especially in this particular group. Don't go. I have way different ideas because I have yet to get a sound I like from any fender amp. HOWEVER I am in heaven running my WT400 thru the Rumble 210 by itself or even better coupled with a Rumble 115. These cabinets rock!

... ... One band I'm with has gone ampless. I like not having to schelp a bunch of gear, but I don't think I get enough control over my sound. BL controls the board and always EQs me dull and flat. I've tried to talk to him about that, but he gives me a blank look like he doesn't understand.

Take one of the 'big rigs' and tell him "I wanna sound like that".
LOL, I did do that with my 100c, but he just doesn't get it.

As it is his band, my only remedy is to rage quit. :D

Yeah, Gravy Davy, please don't leave this group, The Rumble Club, huh?!? We wouldn't know what to do here without you!

You were talking about possibly leaving the band with the controlling BL, right? Well, of course, that's certainly up to you. Most of us have had some band situations where something wasn't just quite right. And it can be very tough, sometimes, to reach a good mutual understanding. But, ultimately, the level of tolerability is a very fine line to determine.

Good luck, there, Davy!

The only way I'll leave is if I'm thrown out. I tried using my 500 head instead of my Fly Rig in rehearsal, but I got some bad 60hz hum. I'm sure it was because I was on a different circuit. The practice space is 2 bedrooms with a wall removed. I think I'm going to try running an extension cord to a plug in the other side of the space.

But with my other band, I will be using my Bassman 100T with the 2 neo 1x15 cabs. (Okay, so it isn't Rumble, but it has Leo's name on it.)

Had my first chance to use my 500 tonight with other humans. Jammed with a drummer and a guitar player as sort of an audition-sort-of-thing and GOODNESS was it fun. We played through the artist's music which is pretty subdued singer-songwriter-y stuff which was great, but then the blues jams just started happening. I was playing my 1992 AVRI '62 P straight into the 500 and the longer we jammed the more they kept telling me to turn up, so I'm glad I got the 500 for that hah! They thought the whole rig sounded awesome, and I definitely enjoyed playing through it. Guess it's hard to mess up with a P straight into a rumble. I've been a guitar/keys/drummer most of my music "career," and only got super into bass over the last year or so. I've almost exclusively played direct into my interface into ableton with music I record myself or for recording sessions, so it was fun to actually have my first plug-into-an-amp-and jam situation. Ya'll, bass is super fun! Who woulda thought.

Sorry, didn't intend a spissing contest. Just messing around. I only use the big stuff for outdoor gigs.

Ahhh. He doesn’t want a bass player…:bassist: !

Ampless can be cool, but sometimes you can be “tanked” from the mix. Your fly rig should deliver adequate character and tone! How can he suck the very LIFE out of it??!!:banghead:

I sympathize with that!

One chooses an Amp based on the qualities of sound it produces in relation to the qualities of sound one likes to hear. You take away the Amp and you're stripping away the Core Characteristics of that sound that makes it your music. Hell, get rid of the instruments too and go with thought waves only. This band leader must have a Disco Ball for a brain. My honest accessment.

Recently got an old friend back from repair (have had it since '83 and mothballed for 15 years due to volume fluctuations, replaced with Peavey Mark IV, also in need of repair now) but no longer have a bass cab to go with it:

Downsized stuff when making a humble home recording studio in 2018, the original 15" PA cabinet (70lbs) I used for 20+ years was too big and heavy to keep around. So I decided to mod my Rumble 100 and put in a switchable jack to use just the speaker:

It's back to school time, even have the desk to help support the Sunn. I think even the desk weighs more than the Rumble 100. Remember when these could protect you from a nuclear attack while you were in grade school? Hey kids, just crawl under your desk and put your head between your legs!

Didn't know what to expect, just wanted to see if the Rumble speaker would work for it. Turned the Sunn up to 5 and could actually feel the concrete basement floor vibrating, oh yeah! Massive RUMBLE.

Still love the sound of the Rumble 100 amp, but it is good to have an old friend back and I like have multi use equipment around to save on space. No need for an extra bass cab now, sweet.

That is a very sweet Sunn
Glad to see you got it back
One of my first amps was a Sunn combo and the controls were nearly identical
Lost the amp when my guitarist plugged an effects pedal into the two pronged outlet at the back of my amp
The plug broke and fell into the amp and it looked like a scene from star wars until the amp popped and a puff of smoke later I lost my amp
Still worked as a cab for a while

Your pictures reminded me of that so Thanks :)

Yo, .BC! Good to hear from you. Hey, please show us as close as you can, just what make & model of switchable jack you installed? Lots of R100c users would love to do this if it's a very easy mod. Please, wiil ya, huh?

Yeah, those old schol desks from the '50s musta been a lot stronger than they looked to withstand an atomic bomb! On a side note, we also were told we could hide under them during a hurricane! 'Cept we always had a day or two notice to evacuate for hurricanes.

Did I read correctly that the Sunn 200S outputs something just between 60 to 75 watts? That shouldn't hurt the R100c speaker at all, but that head just looks so intimidating! :roflmao:

Sure thing G-Dog
I used these from amplifiedparts.com, part number S-H902G:

Also used one in a small Orange RT20 guitar combo amp to use an external HB 112 cab for it, just the reverse of what I used for the Rumble. The little 8in speaker doesn't sound that great but the amp comes alive with the bigger HB speaker. I don't like trying to remember which way to switch a switch, plug-n-play is mucho better.

Yeah, the Sunn head has 2 large transformers which actually balance it out quite nicely when trying to move/carry it. I'm sure it weighs more than the desk and Rumble 100 combined. There is a little sticker inside somewhere that says it is 75 watts so I knew the Rumble should be able to handle it. It's not like I have to keep up with guitars and drums anymore so I don't crank it too loud, but it is nice to move some air and feel the vibrations once and a while.

Here comes the SUNN. Love that amp.
