Fender Rumble Club

Fender USA has been slipping a lot recently
Not that I have seen. In fact my 2012 American Standard Jazz is far better than anything I ever played during the CBS output of the 70's and early 80's. The Fenders coming out of Corona today are world class in every way. Especially the vintage reissues. Bob Glaub (an absolutely killer bass player if you don't know who he is) was recently given a '63 Precision reissue from a good friend. He loves it and says it's even better than the original! He goes on to say it has become his favorite bass and he can't put it down. That's HIGH PRAISE my friend.

I've been following this thread for a while and have yet to really contribute. So here goes... My recently acquired 500 combo that I took a picture of in the kids' playroom:

It usually stays at the rehearsal space, but I have it home for a jam later this week. I also have the 1x15 cab in the basement, but I haven't combined the two together yet. The bass is a MIJ 70's Precision with an EMG Geeezer pickup and a hipshot D-Tuner. Amplification G.A.S has been cured.

Welcome to the Fender Rumble Club, Smurf_Byte! :woot: You are member #482 :hyper:

Rumble Club member #373 checking in!

Nearly 6 months in, and I love these more than ever. Still got the 500 with 115 cab.

Played a good few gigs, recorded an EP, and had nothing but praise for the tone. The sound from the P bass is huge - gigged it last night, and it sounded better than ever. Even my '74 Ricky can sound big through it!

I'm looking at buying a new practice amp. Currently got an Orange (think it's 20/25w). It's getting on, and TBH, has never sounded that good, very thin.

Obviously I'll go for a Rumble.....but which one? It's pretty much home and practice use. Like the look of the 40 as it offers the same controls as my 500 (ie vintage selector). Is that overkill just for a practice amp? Can't see my gigging it unless I join a folk band!

There's always the 15 and 25....What do you guys reckon?

OK, I have a prejudice here. I own a Rumble 40 and would recommend it to anyone. I understand that it costs about twice what the 25 does, but you do get an amp that is more similar to what you have. I know you said you do not play to gig with it, but you never know when you will get an opportunity to play in a smaller venue that does not require your larger amp. I play mine in a auditorium that seats 87 people where it shines. It weighs as close to nothing as possible. Even if it never leaves the house, it is easier to move from one room to another than the 25 would be. I have no doubt that the Rumble 15 and 25 are fine amps, but the 40 has to be the perfect practice amp. Buy it and you'll avoid the buyer's remorse you inevitably experience if you buy less!

Finally took the 500 combo out for a gig, an outdoor party at my singer's house, for her birthday. We play a portion of our set, from all accounts everyone sounded great. Bass and high mid at noon, low mid at 2 o'clock, treble at 11 o'clock, gain at 9, vintage engaged, master at noon, plus running through an M87 compressor with light compression settings. Used the black MIM Jazz in my avatar pic.

Okay well they're not always perfect. :P

Sounds cool. It's good to hear about this in action.
