Fender Rumble Club

I've started using my fearful 15/6 under my Rumble 500 with a very good result, even my band mates noticed the improvement, not only do I not have to have it turned up as much but there is definitely and added oomph!

okay I hate to do this again but I just got the 500 head and am wanting to match it with some Rumble cabs... I've been searching and reading through this thread and others, and I think my head just exploded... I've been nailed by others on other forums about not mixing different cabs but here I am reading that the Rumble cabs of choice are the 10s paired with a 15?! WHAT THE HECK?!

I wouldn't worry too much about pairing other than just having a 15" go with the 2x10" and not 4x10", my rumble 500 (a 2x10") sounds great paired with my Fearful 15/6 (which is just a 15" with a 6" midrange driver). Although I could see why you would want to just get the same speaker combinations if possible

So you've met the you-can't-mix-cabs police? They are only perpetuating bad information because someone said it on the internet. It is a fact that a lot of cabs sound terrible when they are paired with a lot of other cabs. That is absolutely true and there are scientific reasons. But.....when a company builds cabs that go together with proper technology and research, it is fine. That is the much shortened version of the truth. I learned it from one of the most knowledgeable people on Talkbass, agedhorse. I believe him, absolutely! I am no expert on the matter though.

The Fender Rumble 200 combo recommends their 1x12 cab to be paired with it on their website. I would safely assume they have done their research and have the proper technology to build them to work together properly. With that being said, if I ever were to need a second cab for my 200, I would probably still get the 1x15 cab, only because I just really like 15 inch speakers. But, I would not hesitate to mix the 200 with its 15 and a 1x12 cabinet. I hope this helps.

Here are a couple quotes by agedhorse. I hope he doesn't mind.
I would say that it "MAY" be better not to mix cabinets but I don't think that I would choose the word "usually".

One place where matching cabinets can be a challenge is where the tuning gives an under-damped response (pretty common), which can cause the mid bass bump to become more overwhelming. Often (though not always) the mid bass bump is high enough to be really distracting, so doubling up, and it being under-damped, can be worse than mixing one cabinet that is under-damped with one that is looser to critically damped. The drawback is that the phase response may be different enough to cause a different problem... but this new problem is unlikely to be worse (and likely to be better) than doubling up on under damped response.

Note that I am using terms that are used to describe electronic filter response. This is because the mathematical models for speakers are heavily influenced by electronic filter theory.
and
Many modern (quality) cabinets do in fact pair up acceptably well. As the understanding of cabinet design has matured, and as the quality of drivers has improved in general, this has become more true rather than less true. Of course it is not absolute, but more true than not ime.

Invalid Link Removed, Fender sent us the 200 head and the 1x15, and I can attest that they sound and work great together.
