Fender Rumble Club

He was quite keen to steer me into a R25 which has put me off kilter a bit TBH.

Just found out that a 3rd guitarist (all acoustics) is joining our little group so that make the extra watts in the R40 even more beneficial, not too mention the 10" speaker and EQ improvements + the XLR out. But I'd rather pay the R25 price :) , and to actually see and try the R40 before purchase.

So, I'll hasten slowly and put a little extra away. In the meantime I'll try to find another shop with the R40 in stock so I can check it out and look for used ones; and I may need to use my Eminar plus 410 sometimes.

Rumble 25- no bright or vintage button, no xlr out, non adjustable overdrive, 3 band vs 4 band eq, volume only vs gain+master, 8" vs 10" speaker.

To me it shouldn't even be called a rumble. It seems to me like just a bedroom practice amp, maybe a good one, but nonetheless..
Can't imagine it being heard over 3 guitarists.

Save for the 40. Or even the 100.

I know this won't help, because I've never tried the 40. However, I did get to try the 15 and the 25. The 15 would not have been usable for me other than just to see if a bass was working or if I needed and almost silent amp to not bother others who were sleeping. the 25, on the other hand, would have been plenty to have at unplugged acoustic jams and even low volume plugged in jams. It would even be able to keep up with a full band practice where everyone had volumes way, way, way under control. And the 25 had great tone. And it was $99 here. I still might get one for my home practice amp.

If the 40 is louder and lighter and sounds even better, it has to be a great amp. That would be a given. I would go for the 40, at least.

I'd like a number please :) I've been enjoying the Rumble 150w for about 4 years and a few days ago just picked up the 410 rig and loving it.

Yes, both amps are playing at the same time. One pre-amp is driving two power-amp/speaker combos. The effect is like you have two bass players playing the exact same notes perfectly in sync, each playing into their own amp.

The benefit is more power and more speaker area.

Seeing how the Rumble line can already put out obscene power/$$$ and drive 4x10 or 2x15, the reason for doing so is mostly of academic interest, though I see no reason why you couldn't gig with this given the need. The output volume is controlled by the master amp (the one where the instrument is plugged in) so unless you want the monitor to be as loud as the back line, this might present a problem. If you had a stacked back line and a single monitor, that might work. Dunno; haven't tried it. But as a stack, if you really need that much power, that is where you would use such a system. Me, personally, I do not need that much power and never will.

I could also see such a rig running in GD Wall of Sound mode where you only use a fraction of the available power, just loafing along, cleanly moving massive amounts of air. No monitors needed.
And yes, with extension cabs you could REALLY annoy your neighbors!

I can get noise complaints with the Rumble 500 combo all by itself without the extension cabinet. So again, as far as I'm concerned, this is just an academic exercise. It can be done and it operates as the block diagram suggests.
Good experiment, though I would have thought master volume control would still work at the slave amp (I didn't check the diagram). You could run "effects out" to "IN" to control at the slave. In that case, your "Master" should be your "louder" rig, to send adequate signal to the slave (and reducing master would similarly affect slave).

Just a thought. "Chain Rumbles" or "Rumble Chains"?... :D

Cheers,

New here. Funny story I have a v2 rumble100 that was ratty as hell to start with but sounded great. One day leaving band practice I hosted the amp on to my shoulder. Went to leave. And the amp hit the top of the door jam falling backward from my 6' shoulder. No more rumble. However I'm about to buy a v3 rumble 500 with a matching 2x10 cab. Unless any of you can make a compelling argument for one of the other cabs. Anyway can I have a number?
I would go with the 112 or the 210 cab. My reasoning is because of the matching width and has noting to do with how killer the 115 sounds (never tried it). I have the 500 combo and the 112 cab. It sounds amazing and appeases my OCD.

With all the experiments going on with Rumbles, I just plugged my Martin HPD-41 with K&K Pure Mini pickup into an Orchid DI box and into the Rumble 100. Contour and Bright engaged and running flat, it sounded fantastic. Totally stage-worthy tone. I think the 100 could make a kazoo sound good!
I finally got around to plugging a Strat and a BC Rich Acoustic/Electric (Fishman) into the R40 this snowy afternoon (vintage on, gain @11, EQ flat). Both sounded accurate/clear, with a big advantage to the BCR - simply a huge, full, sound. I'm really liking this amp as a "does it all" package, because it works for more than just EBG! :D

Cheers,

thanks guys, thats how I'm leaning now. GregT that prob explains why the guy thought the 25 was an option.

But last night (it was 37deg Celcius all day here) our Air Con died... and it's a big ducted unit. :bawl: I know where my money will now be directed. It will take a little longer, but I'm quite set on the R40.
I think the 100 is too close to my current rig, a 250w @ 4ohm head with an 8ohm 410... so, I'd only be pushing out a small amount above the 100w, and I cant utilise this cab from the R100. Now if there was a R60 with all the same features of the R100... effects in/out etc; mmm I'd have to consider saving a little more and going there. :D

May I have a number too, please? I got my Ruble 500 combo January 9th at exactly 4:18 pm, according the receipt. Compared to my old 10 watt Crate combo... Well, the Crate sounded sorta like

ppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

and the Rumble is all like

BWAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!

So yeah, sign me up for the fan club. :woot:

Welcome to the Fender Rumble Club, @Scott C.! :woot: You are Member #597 :hyper:  Rumbles Rock! :smug:

The Rumble 40 is most definitely worth the additional $$$ over the Rumble 25. Just the upgrade in the pre-amp/front end alone is worth it much less the additional watts and bigger better woofer. Here in the USA the R25 is $100 and the R40 is 100% more at $200, and yes for the tone alone it is worth twice as much. They are basically the same size and are within an inch of each other on all dimensions. The R40 is 4 pounds lighter than the R25 due to plywood vs MDF cabinet construction. Go with the Rumble 40 if cost isn't an issue for you.

This! When I replaced my old practice amp last year, I followed Linnin's advice, and went for the 40 over the 25. The layout is the same as my 500, giving me the opportunity to get my tone the same wherever I am, home or practice/gig.

.....and it's really light, too!
