Fender Rumble Club

I only got a chance to play with the Rumble for about an hour yesterday, but wow. I am blown away.

I dialed in my usual settings, pressed the "Vintage" and "Bright" buttons and took off. I ran through a bit of Rush and Sabbath, as well as some salsa (with some tweaking). Man, does this amp sing!

I look forward to actually cranking it, and trying out the OD too. I could only keep the master vol at, like, 9 o' clock.

Got a chance to try out my new "older" model Rumble 150 at our jam Sunday afternoon, and loved it! Everybody there was definitely impressed with this amp. It really sounded superb in the mix, and I barely had the volume past noon. Will be using it again this Saturday night - can't wait!

Nice looking V2 150. I will be hard pressed to replace mine. More than enough at rehearsals and with PA support has sounded great at every show. I know that one day I will go for the V3 500 head and pick up some appropriate cabs to match.

Thanks, Chains. Good observations on the 150. I've only jammed with it once, but it has more than enough oomph and tone for the guys I jam with - I guess I'll see how it handles itself in a small club, if we ever do that again in the future..

But yeah - I'm really liking this amp a lot..

Ok, here's my Rumble ... in our drummer's test lab ...

That's a great looking rig, tedsalt, and I'll bet louder than heck too!

I just had my first encounter with the new Rumble line this morning at the Davenport, IA GC. They had the 25 and 40 on the floor, but had just received a 200 still in its box next to the counter. My regular sales guy couldn't help himself and cracked open the box to reveal what has to be the lightest weighing 15" bass combo amp in the history of combo amps. Next to where he placed it on the floor was a Peavey Max 115, and lifting that was like hoisting a boat anchor! Weight aside, it was time to plug in, and was it impressive. He let 'er rip and the place was shaking to where the manager came out to see which teen was blasting off M-80s. Full, deep tone 'ala Motown, which the Peavey had more of a modern, but very shallow tone to it. Admittedly, the Peavey hung in and didn't fart out like I thought it would, but it also didn't have near the bottom end the Fender cruised with. We buried the volume control with gain around noon and the Eminence driver never flinched. To say we were both impressed would be an understatement. All for four bills? Incredible. Now I'm re-thinking about purchasing the 500 combo because I'm currently in q 25-piece community band with obnoxiously-loud brass and woodwinds. Yet, if the extra money doesn't show up in my pocket I won't feel like I'm compromising as much with the 200 as I first thought.

Fender, ya done good. Long live the Rumble!

Almost forgot to mention that the Peavey is rated at 300 watts compared to the Rumble's 140-watts, but that neither my sales guy or myself could tell any negligible difference in actual volume, plus the Rumble won the warmth contest hands down.

I stopped by a GC yesterday and they had the new Rumble combos (40, 200, 500). I played them all. The little 40 watter sounded pretty good. I wish they had the 100 watter to compare. The 200 and 500 were fairly similar to each other. I tried to set the EQ the same on both to get a close comparison. I prefered the tone of the 200 a little more than the 500. Perhaps it was the 15" speaker that caused that. I would think the 200 would be perfect for most medium sized gigs.

I've made similar findings. I like my 500H with 115 cab. I bought 100 combo with 112 but I'm returning it after one gig. It just didn't work for me. Guess it's same thing with the 500 combo. You lose the warmth without 15" speaker. YMMV.

Sorry for the crappy picture. Got this rig yesterday. Rumble 500H and Rumble 115 v3 cab. Still in playing around mode with it right now but I can tel you this much...... what a great sounding lightweight rig. I'm happily surprised for sure. Glad I got the rig now cause I could see this new Rumble line getting a price increase in a year or so..... maybe I shouldn't have said that out loud, as I'm now planing a second 115 v3 cab..... ;) I'd love a number!

Before I take back my 100 combo, I have one question for you bass professionals (I am not such). How much will the speaker break in make the amp sound warmer and softer? I mean, there is remarkable change in tone of guitar amp between the brand new and broken in speaker. Will there be similar changes in bass cabs? I kind of believe my Rumble 115 sounds better now than new. Please, share your wisdom and let me keep my 100 combo.
