Fender Rumble Club

Ah!

So in theory, any 8 ohm cab (other brand?) would run okay through the 500 head, alongside the 115?

I'm thinking ahead, as my plan is sell my 500 combo (mainly a car/space thing), and run the 500/115. If really necessary (which it hopefully isn't as we're just a pub/club band) add another small cab if ever needed. Transportation solved, and a new era of bass rig for me!

I'm going to be a dummy here - please bear with me - 8+8=4?
1/8 + 1/8 = 1/4. That's how you combine parallel resistances.

So if you have an 8 ohm cab and a 16 ohm cab in parallel, then since 1/8 + 1/16 = 1/5.333, your combined load is 5.333 ohm (but the 8 ohm cab will receive a lot more power).

Meanwhile, if you hook up your speakers in series (nearly impossible to do unless you're talking about drivers inside a single cabinet), you add them normally, so 8 ohm + 8 ohm = 16 ohm.

In layman's terms (and I'm being completely unscientific here), you should think of resistance as an inverse quantity. The more resistance, the more it resists. Lower the resistance and you get more power out of your amp. Adding multiple cabs together usually lowers the resistance because (once again, being unscientific) you're giving your signal multiple places it can go, rather than forcing it all into one cabinet. So it allows you to draw more from your amp. Problem is, though, if you lower the resistance too much, your amp will overheat and die because it is not rated to provide infinite amounts of power.

I personally love, love, love the TC K series cabs they've recently released. I love my K210s and they're only $399 a pop.

I never really looked at these cabs. Kinda wish I had now. I like how they are set up to stand up or lay flat. I'm toying with idea of modding my Rumble 210 cab to that. Easy enough mod, just add feet on the side.

I am thinking it would be great to add another 210 that can be laid flat and stacked to accommodate a larger head, like the Bassman 500, and have that 410 punch and all the 500watts pumping. Or have them stacked normal to get vertical going for the Rumble 500 head or other smaller heads.

I like options and flexibility!
 
I've spent over an hour looking at threads on the forums and the consensus seems to be that 16 AWG is fine for anything 10 foot or less.

Seems that the length is more important than wattage.

I'm hoping the one cab is enough. Worst case, add a 112. Very small, could go as my front seat passenger!

I've gigged the 500 combo solo many times, and never gone above a 1/4 in volume. Can't wait to try my first ever head.

Ohms is resistance in an electrical circuit. The reason 8 + 8 = 4 is because they are wired in parallel. so each side of the parallel gets 1/2 of the total, meaning the head sees 4 ohms.
If you wired two 8 ohm cabs in series, it would b 8 + 8 and the head would see 16 ohms.
 
Quick update...got the 500 head today, gave it a quick run with the 115 cab earlier.

All I can say is - wow! It's a monster. When I A/B'd it against the 500 cab, it sounds very different indeed....loads more presence, bottom, and a real vintage crunch - loads od power.

It made the 500 combo sound quite tame in comparison!

We're gig-free this weekend, but have one next week, and two the week after - so it'll be getting some serious stick.

Early days, but just from a home demo, I can't see me needing an extra cab for what we do. I tried identical EQ'ing with both head and combo, and the 115 seemed more powerful. Maybe it's me imagining it!

After much consideration about whether to go for a 115 or 210... I went with the 210. Ordered today, comes Monday. I really liked the idea of the 115 but the symmetrical-ness of having 2 x 210 made me go that way. Looking forward to this!

That's best anyway. When you combine two different cabs with two different configurations of speakers, unless they're specifically made to work with each other, you often have issues with not all of them being the same efficiency. I just think it's easier not to have to think about it. Get the same thing 2x.

It's not surprising at all. The 115 configuration has more speaker area and volume than a 210 configuration does, and the 15" driver is quite a bit more efficient than the 10" driver, even with two of them effectively doubling their efficiency.

All things being equal, the amp head feeding the 115 cab will be louder and more powerful than the same amp going into the 210 cab.

That's the reason why the Rumble 200 combo (1x15") and the Rumble 500 combo (2x10") are about the same volume with the internal speaker. The amp wattage is balanced out by the speaker difference.
