Fender Rumble Club

Out of all the major brands, isn't fender the only one that is price gouged? I just know the story of the fender name trademarked from the buyer of my MIM jazz basses back in about 99 who told me they were going to be taken to Australia where at the time fender wasn't exporting due to this "other" fender having the rights to the name, so there was a huge used import market. Apparently I might not be off in assuming part of that high price is due to fender eventually caving in to export, and part of the price is due to royalties going to whomever had registered the trade name fender in Australia?

I don't know about the trademark story but the gouging part is true. A top of the line P bass is going to hit you in the mid $3k range. Ricks are in the $4k range with MM's in there somewhere. It''s a tiny market for bass so costs are going to be high, my local guitar shop is phasing out their bass section and they only stock a couple of combos. Pathetic.

And yes, we do carry bloody big knives ... but only if we're visiting the USA. :)

Yeah there is a private importer 'Fender Australia'. Rumble warranty 12months non transferable.
But prices are high on everything.

Happy 107th Birthday to Leo Fender

You have no idea how much it pains me to read this.

My youngest has Cystic Fibrosis with diabetic complications. Our small college town has an excellent CF Clinic, and he sees his cardiologist, dietician, respirologist, etc. regularly.

Thanks to a good diet and excellent healthcare, if you didn't know his background, you'd take him for a normal 9 year old boy. He loves cycling, swimming and fishing.

Still, even with lower Canadian drug prices, his medications cost over $46,000 a year. That will only increase over time.

Thankfully, he is able to have the best of care despite our rather iffy finances, because of single-payer health care.

The only part of his medication costs that we have to pay, is $120 month for a special vitamin supplement.

I don't see how Obamacare will ever meet people's needs as long as the insurance companies have their greasy fingers in the pie, and your gov't is legally restricted from negotiations with big pharma.

As an Australian my mind boggles that the world's most wealthiest country cannot/will not look after its people, let alone its Vets. We pay a lot of tax in Oz yet it means that everyone can have access to the health care they need. We are a community not a balance sheet. Linnin's health issues have touched a deep note in each of us Rumblers

To say the U.S. government does not provide healthcare is incorrect:
Jan 21, 2016 - At $5,960 per capita, government spending on health care costs in the U.S. was the highest of any nation in 2013, including countries with universal health programs such as Canada, Sweden and the United Kingdom. (Estimated total U.S. health spending for 2013 was $9,267 per capita, with government's share being $5,960.)
The delivery system and the quality of care is the issue. The dismal performance of the Veteran's Administration points out the problems, at least in the U.S., with government run healthcare. I can't speak for other countries. There are anecdotal stories for and against government run healthcare in countries where there is government run universal healthcare, so you can't trust what is said about them.
Although the costs in the U.S. are the highest, the U.S. is also responsible for delivering most of the advances in medical technology because there is money built in to those costs for R&D. Without R&D, the technology will stagnate.

I'm confused on a number of levels.

1. Healthcare outcomes can be measured on a number of levels, so there's no need to rely on anecdotal evidence. Objectively, the US is good, not great.

2. US Government funding is responsible for healthcare advances? Without your tax dollars, technology would stagnate? Doesn't sound like a free-market economy to me.

3. Numerically, the US is responsible for a lot of medical advances. But per-capita? I'm pretty sure it falls behind other countries that have universal healthcare. There's a lot of stuff that comes out of Israel, England, Japan, Canada, etc...

This is The Fender Rumble Club. Volunteers are needed to keep the membership roster and perhaps upgrade it to something searchable. Someone to greet and welcome new members to the club and issue a membership number. It only takes a few minutes of time everyday. This could easily be something done in rotation in conjunction with others.

I would be happy to volunteer, if deemed worthy of the honor.

  1. Perhaps I wasn't clear. The anecdotal evidence I was referring to was in relation to the relative quality of healthcare in countries that have universal healthcare. I've head praises and damnations, so I give them no value.
  2. That isn't what I said. What I was trying to say that if costs are cut too much, then there is not enough profit to allow for R&D. It has nothing to do where the money comes from.
  3. The list I have is:

  1. U.S.
  2. UK
  3. Germany
  4. Japan
  5. Canada
  6. France
  7. Italy
  8. Netherlands
  9. Australia
  10. Sweden

Send me your email to [email protected], and I'll send you a copy of the club roster such as it is. Clubs are just something fun and are not officially sanctioned by TalkBass. Rules are the same for any thread or post. You have no special powers like a moderator. Best wishes for a future bright with promise, and more Fender Rumbles!
