Fender Rumble Club

This summer, I got a Rumble 15 to bring with me on vacation. I love the compact size. Soundwise it's OK, I guess, but nowhere near its bigger brothers in sound quality. It sounds quite boxy, but I was thinking it might be possible to mitigate this by lining the cabinet. What do you think?

So not being able to come up with a compelling reason not to do this I pulled the trigger on another Rumble 500 combo. If I encounter any unforeseen complications or drawbacks I'll be sure to share them. I should be able to report by the end of the week.

That is freaking awesome!

Make sure you keep us up to speed on how it works out. Now I suddenly got cramps...or is that GAS?

Those are sealed, so just stuff it loosely full of polyfil. $5 and it will sound better!

I've heard that you should avoid contact between speaker and wadding. Any truth to that?
No, because it is inevitable. You're just going to stuff it in there, and let it go wherever it will in your travels and also by the vibration of your playing. Just pull the fill apart so it is fluffy and fill the cabinet full, but not 'packed'. That should take most if not all the boxiness out and tighten up your midrange considerably.

Great! Thanks for the tip! Will let you all know how it goes.

It's what we do best beside pissing off everyone else. Or maybe that's just me.
Welcome to the club.
It's just you

Dear Linnin,

While I'm waiting for my 3rd rumble combo and giving credit to Kevins1701's post 8995 on page 450 for the 3D logo and numerical knob ideas, I still feel like a number. Yeah, it seems like it's been awhile since someone joined and 666 was a hot property when that came up, I skimmed back for a point of reference. 777? I'm not that lucky! Maybe it is just you.

You have lots of good karma around here, Linnin.
And I would be much worse if I was going through the medical issues you are confronting.
Thanks much @Indiedog! I run around stirring up the stinky stuff because I can't stand closed mindedness or the resultant stifling of free and open thought & speech. This is called 'GroupThink' and the entire notion of consensus is taking over the world. Free Thinkers don't stand a chance let alone the thoughts they think or the music & art they make.

Standard GC practice, keeping it in back takes away 30 days of visibility to potential buyers. ...

It just doesn't seem like Compassionate Capitalism. (eye-roll) The only thing I ever bought used from them was a SR1205 with a very nice maple top and Nordstrand Big Singles. It wasn't really used so much as open-box/factory blem or whatever made them sell it for about half price. I had it shipped out from Kansas City so I figured it had to have some blues deep down into the fancy wood and gold hardware. For sure, it was a little more ball-room than brawl-room. It sounded great until I took it to the first rehearsal.

Stop me if you've heard this somewhere. Oh, forget it, I'm on a roll. In the mix, I couldn't escape the notion that a tenor sax player was hiding in the closet and playing my notes. The Bartolinis on the zebra pictured in my first entry had a much better squawk more like the EMGs on the Schecter Hell Raiser. Those are pretty too but I still want one. For better or worse, the mids are the voice so that 1205 went back and the 505 (pretty much the same price at that point) stayed on.

If the Rumble 15 turns out to be legit, it will most likely end up in the hands of one of my nephews. I gave him a 70's era Mustang and a pig-nose as a starter kit. The pig goes into thermal shutdown after a few minutes so this will stoke him up again. He'll keep that 40 year old Fender forever - or so he says. I can visit on week-ends!

HaHa! No, it's not just me @John B jr. Ask @Gravedigger Dav for your number as he runs the club now. Welcome! We are glad you are here.:woot:

Something about that 500 series seems to be just right. It is the only ibanez that I did not return or sell. It was the same situation as your 1205, scratch and dent, though I suspect it had been sold and was returned, ibanez does not come with elixir strings. It was only $200 (sr500) and they threw in a gigbag, and a warranty I didn't want or need, but they threw it in for free as well (manager trying to up his PG quota and get that bass out of there). The wenge/bubinga neck and bartolinis attracted me. I might upgrade the preamp to basslines in the future though, to better match my Warwicks, and because I like the choice of frequency centers better, and the push pull contour. The preamps on newer 500s, which I assume yours to be if it is a zebra, have a better preamp with the mid shift switch, an improvement, but I prefer the wenge/bubinga over the jatoba

Short side note. Who ever heard of Compassionate Communism? Or even Compassionate Socialism? You haven't because they aren't. Economic systems and their resultant political systems never have been nor ever can be 'compassionate' in any way. I will spare you the source of compassion and it's resultant human interaction as that would most assuredly get me banned forthwith. Happy Day. :D

Deja.vu. did we have this question/answer before?

So is the inference that the Guitar Center in Orange (near Dizzyland) has a reputation for being a bit...squirrely? I will be in the area this weekend and thought I might stop in to browse as I have in the past. The last time I was there I was interested in an Ibby 1806 bass. The thing just didn't sound right when pulling the tone controls into play but I liked everything about it. I told several employees there that I felt it was just that the 9v battery was dead. Did they jump and replace the battery so that I would buy the bass. Well, no. They didn't. The sale was lost.

A few months ago I was looking at big, spendy mixers at one of the GC's in PHX. I wanted to measure it so that i could tell if it would fit in my space. Did they have a tape measure? No. Not even the repair/set-up department had one. How do they measure scale length? I guess the hardware store next door was too far for them. No wonder they are in trouble.

It is no surprise that I almost always buy at my local independent shop here in Tucson.
