I like the P, but the color on the J is overdone IMHO. Not so fond on that one.

The compound radius neck sounds interesting. That Jazz really looks nice to me. I'll be interested to hear what people have to say about the new pickups, and how these basses feel, play and sound.

They made a series like that for the 50th Anniversary in 1996 and a special run in 2000. I think the new Jazz bass has a fotoflame look to it, but in a good way.

I played a Fender Select P Bass at my local guitar store today. Man it played so nice! I have played a Custom Shop and the Select P played very much like it. It would be a tough choice to pick between the two - the decider would be the other stuff you could get with a Custom Shop like a selection of colors, active pickups and so forth.

I played the P it didnt excite me , as far as looks , Im not a fan of flamed woods on fenders, I like paint or natural

If they keep making the same things over and over they need to do something new. If they make something new, they need to focus on the classics.

I played one and was very unimpressed. If your gonna spend 2300+ dollars buy a sadowsky metro or a nordy. Fender should stick to what they do best and leave custom basses to those best suited to do it.

I played one side by side with American Standard and while I think it is a real nice bass I would not pay almost twice the price but thats just me,

I played the P and was quite impressed with the tone and the neck moreso than the flame. Very low action literally right out of the box. Weight was reasonable but not a feather. I would have walked out with it if it were a few hundred bucks cheaper.

The Select is a real nice but it but if should be a few hundred over the American Std tops .
