That there is a sunburst road worn p with extra love. I've had two. For that price, get it! They are amazing basses.

Fender serial number not matching bass model colour?

It’s a Roadworn P bass. I recognize the aging on the hardware and the relicing on the body. I’m pretty sure they either had a wear “template” or were instructed to relic in a particular way so that customers wouldn’t get touchy about getting “too much or too little” relicing. The nut width on these is pretty wide @ 1.75”. Make sure you are comfortable with that.
Take off the pickgaurd and look under it..It will be stamped Rdwn...The only thing I see not right is the neck plate..They had no F on them.
Thanks for that, I didn’t know that! That’s a good way to see if the body is real by removing the pick guard. Also the neck plate information too.
I already have a nice p-bass but can’t turn down a good deal on acquiring another one but I’m probably going to pass on this one. There’s just something off about it.
They do use some form of template, or CNC program. Only very minor variances is the depth of the wear, but the wear is always the same and in the same places.
That's definitely an authentic Road Worn neck and Road Worn body. Regardless of what the database says, all Fenders are mix and match necks and bodies. Even if someone had did the swap, it was a RW neck for a RW neck so likely done for good reason. Plus they put Chromes on it, so the current owner knows what they are doing 
My bet is a database error. For all the items in that database, probably not everything is 100% correct. I bought mine used with a replaced tort pickguard, more natural wear on top of the factory wear, paid way more than $800 Cdn, but it was worth every penny to me. For $800, I'd be all over it.

Most of my MiM's have the "F", as I like it and Fender "F" neck plates are $10 on Amazon.

The serial number database may have the wrong colour listed (very easy mistake) or maybe the owner wanted a sunburst but could only find a red one and found a red bass owner with the opposite dilemma... The body looks like a RW, the neck looks like a RW... Those are great basses, I'd get it. Be warned the neck is pretty chunky on those, if you haven't played one yet.

Looks like the neck, tuners, string tree are Fender road worn. The body is also Fender road worn, with some extra wear, but none of the parts on the body are. All of the metal parts on the body are shiny new, probably Fender, but not road worn. Pickguard is not Fender. Neck plate is maybe, maybe not Fender. Those replacement F plates blow, btw. They are super thin and you can see how bent up it is. Pickup and electronics? Who knows.
Leads me to believe this bass is assembled from mostly road worn parts, likely sourced from a seller like The STRATosphere on eBay. They part out new instruments if you’re unfamiliar with them. You can buy a loaded neck and an empty body and then source parts for the rest of your build elsewhere and save a few bucks. That’s what happened here, imo. Also explains why the neck came off of a fiesta red bass.
$800 cdn is a good price, imo. That’s just under $600 us. If that popped up on marketplace where I am, it would already be in my living room.
It's stamped on the body...Actually engraved...I own a 2009 I bought new and a 2018 I bought new..They were both the same.
New here. Stumbled on this topic on a search. I bought new in 2006 from a respected Fender dealer a translucent orange precision. Had it since then gigged it all over and treasured it.I have other basses but this is my favourite by a country mile. Checked out the fender serial lookup register and was surprised to see its black. Either Im colourblind or someone has sneaked into my house and swapped the body…. Or Fenders database is bollox.I suspect the latter. Id not worry overly if I was buying a secondhand USA bass and the register shows different details unless there was something else not looking right.
