I tried to do a search on this topic but did not find anything in an hour.
While comparing my mexican standard fender jazzes I noticed a difference in the heel and where and how it tapers to the neck pocket. The fretless is a 96 and the taper begins at the 14th "fret". The fretted is an 01 and the taper begins at the 15th fret. I also have an 02 with a 14th fret taper.
Has anyone else noticed this difference? While playing, that hard edge is rather obtrusive.
Looking at pictures of other MIM jazzes it appears the taper randomly begins somewhere between the 14th and 15th fret. I'm wondering which is more common.
