Fender Studio Bass Club!

Okay, figured it out; this is what I'll try:
The SB remains as a Combo. The ST will be placed on top of the SB (perfect matching of the dimensions, but maybe I'll have to fix both amps at the wall or sth.). I ordered a Fender A/B/Y-Box, so I can feed the two amps with the Signal from my bass guitar. The SB will be connected to the internal EV 15B Driver (8 Ohms). The ST will be connected to the 215 Cabinet with the JBL (8 Ohms total) and via parallel Input to my old GK 2x10 Cabinet (8 Ohms), so the total impedance for the ST will be 4 Ohms. This Cabinet will be positioned in a few meters distance in our rehearsal room. Yeeeehaaaaa! Sorry, feeling like I'm a child again and it's christmas

Everything went well and so I succeeded in having a rehearsal with SB and ST in top of it connected to the modified cabinets. Great Sound, much headroom! But what I had to learn was, that the ST was brutally loud and much bassier than the SB! I had the output volume at 4, Gain at 7. My SB sounds fine at 7/7. And the EQ Section had also to be turned more "flat" than the EQ of the SB because of huge bass waves coming out of the cabinets. I had tried the 2x15 Cabinet with the SB the night before and it wasn't so loud as with the ST. In combination after half an hour of testing around I was very satisfied and enjoyed the perfect Fender Sound!

Ths seems normal. You use the SB only with one 15" in a small cabinet, the ST with two 15" (much bigger cabinet) + two 10". The sureface of the 215/210 is up than 3 times more than one 15" and this means, it is a lot louder than 115. Even the power of the ST is distributed between 215 and 210 and one 15 of the 215 gets less power than the 15" of the SB.

The only real test is between f. e. a 215 4 Ohm and a 215 8 Ohm. I did it with two Fender Bassman 50 diagonal cabs, one with 2x K140 8 Ohm = 4 Ohm for the ST and the other 2x K140 16 OHm = 8 Ohm for the SB. In this case both amps were equal in loudness, but a little different in the mids. The ST seems to be a little bit clearer and more open.

Here some pics of my SB, ST, Bassman 50 (ported) and a JBL BB240.

And a quite heavy JBL BB240 4 Ohm:

The JBL BB240 sounds better as the Bassman 50s (sealed or ported), I use it with a Bassman 135 or a Dynacord B1001. More Volume and a very accurate tuning of the ports shows the quality of JBL cabinets. But huge and heavy...

The Bassman 50 cabs sounded sealed very boxy in my taste, nearly no lowend. I ported both, exactly tuned, and put in some insulation wool. Now they are better in bass and lower mids, but not comparable with the JBL. If I want to have the sealed sound, I put an exactly matchig cover on it.

Next weeks I get a JBL BB151K with a K151 18" and a Bassman VT with 2x 15" CTS speaker for little money. I love testing around with old (valve-) stuff. The only thing I regret is the fact, that most vintage cabinets are not very suitable for use with 5 string-basses.

That is a whole lot of vintage Fender love right there ... Studio Bass, Super Twin and all those great vintage cabs. Very nice!
I had a US builder (LDS) make an updated version of the Bassman 50 cab for my Studio Bass loaded with Faital 15PR400's. Pretty close to the JBL D140's but not exactly. The Faital's have much stouter power handling specs and also have more high end than the JBL's.

I don't use it much since I got the '77 Fender Fullerton EVM 15L cab, but its still a great match with the SB.

There are a couple of Super Twins and a Super Twin Reverb in my area...
I wonder if taking the speakers out of the combo and using it like that to wheel in and out of venues might be easier than trying to haul a separate head ...in a Mojo Tone cab and speaker cab

Then just hook up to one of my Epifani UL410 or 310 cabs rolled in on wheels./dolly

It'd be very top heavy then, in danger of toppling over. Even with the speakers the combos were top heavy.
It ain't that heavy as a head only, in its head case. Certainly nothing to worry about for most able bodied people.
My 115 cabs have wheels, so my tube heads sit on one o those sometimes. That's easiest.
Otherwise a collapsable/foldable trolley works wonders

@pfschim: How would you describe the sound difference of the faital to the jbl k140 sealed/ported or old cts sealed in this particulary box?
having used JBL D140 and K140 drivers over the years I would say that the Faital's have a lot more going on in the deep lows (50-80hz) with an upper mid bump (900-1200hz ?) and a lot more high end (over 4khz) than the JBL's which can make them a bit more harsh sounding comparatively. I still feel like the JBLs sound better to my ear ... warmer, less brittle (?), but this is to be expected of the very modern Faitals vs the older JBL's. Don't misunderstand me, the Faitals sound very good as well, and are in a similar sound profile as the JBL's, I just find I need to EQ them a bit more carefully/differently than the JBLs. And keep in mind the more modern Faitals have much more stout power handling capabilities vs the JBL's something like 400w vs 150w.

I know the Studio Bass is top heavy...But I wondered if the guitar combos would be more stable, as they sit lower to the ground
Super Twin is wider than the Studio Bass with its 2x12 speakers side by side. The Studio Bass is about a 45lb head on top of a fairly tall and shallow 1x15 cab, which made them prone to tipping over. I know that when I bought my Studio Bass head the front plate, Power and Standby switches, and the Volume knob all showed signs of a faceplant.

I have stacked a pair of st's or str's on top of my sb's and thought they were all within about an 1/8 of an inch of each other in width cabinet wise. If I remember correctly the two twelves are offset height in the st's/str's and sit in tighter (kinda stacked) than if level and next to each other?

Suddenly not so sure of my memory ; )
