I’d go this way with the SB if I got another one. Roll it in, mic it up and enjoy that tone through my IEM and FOH. Perfect and very cool visual.

Hi all,
Just checking in here to ask what the price-range for this amp is?
And to also ask if it was only produced with a black grill, or if it also was made with silver? or if this is a custom job in the case.
I've tried to look around to get my bearings but have not been able to fully figure out about these two questions

Last I looked they go from anywhere between 4 and 800 depending on condition. Mine is silver (see 1st post in this thread) but most I see are black.

Looks like i've got a '78 Studio Bass on the way, just curious about faceplates
Did they ever come new with the blackface style faceplate like in the image attached? Or was that a custom thing?

I was actually pretty lucky to be at the right place at the right time, I was doing a Live Sound Production course at my local University, and one of my classmates offered to sell me a mid 70's (I'm guessing) non-reverb Fender Super Twin amp for Au$300.00, so, of course I took him up on his offer.
no, this is the one I’m getting… been pretty roughly chopped down into a head and cab but I’ll be tidying it up when I get it… maybe even put it back into a combo

Hey guys, I found this 2nd hand deal online for €750. I really want the SB head but I’m totally not interested in the poopy looking cabinet. I know that it has vintage fender jbl speakers but I dont care really. The guy isn’t willing to sell de head separately to me so is this a good deal?
It's difficult to find a Studio Bass amp which has been separated. Is it a good deal? Depends. How many SB amps have you found that have a separated head?
I've known of about 10 since I started paying attention.
Unless you have the skills (or money) to do it yourself, this might be a good deal (poopy cab included).

those JBL D130's are actually worth quite a bit if they have no issues.

Keep an eye out for the combo. The amp itself can be removed. And a headcase built for it.
I had the combo. The speaker was super meh, meaning "very 60s/70s with not much versatility".
If I had money, I'd buy the combo, get a headcase built and use a cab with a less vintage sounding speaker.
FYI the combo weighs a ton and I'm too old for that shiiiiiz.
Just finished re-housing the old girl and found a second hand neo 1x15 to pair with it… sounds and looks awesome
Thanks for posting the details of the cap values and placement, I have for a long time considered the circuits of the Super Twin, Super Twin Reverb, and the Studio Bass to be a for the most part an ignored uncharted frontier for mods and improvements.
I own a Super Twin in a Bassman headshell AND a Studio Bass as a combo. Last year I changed the STW into a combo and the STB into a head, but I returned to the Studio Bass combo version again (with an EV Speaker), which nowadays is a great and good-looking furniture in my livingroom - perfect for playing bass sitting on the sofa (when my wife is not at home). The Super Twin in his headshell sits on top of a Fender 215 loaded with two JBL 15 speakers (in our rehearsal place) and is connected as a slave to my Ampeg SVT-VR on top of an Ampeg 4x8 and 4x10 cabinet. The Super Twin is much louder because of a mod: if you activate the "bright" switch, there is a kind of boost or sth., adding lots of headroom. As I bought it with this modification, I can't tell how it is done. The Distortion is not useful, nor for bass neither for guitar. But the rest of the EQ section etc. is okay for playing bass, but when I used it "standalone" (without the Ampeg SVT-VR) I had a preamp (Ampeg SVP-II) to make it sound more versatile. Both of them I had checked at my technician, he was full of commendation for them (but not for the Ampeg SVT-VR

I agree, I've never found the built-in Distortion in my mid-70's non-reverb Fender Super Twin to be of any use at all, to my ears it sounds like a badly mis-biased preamp tube, you can easily get much better sounding Distortion pedals at reasonable prices these days, even my Jim Dunlop JD-F2 Fuzz Face sounds better than the Super twin's built-in Distortion, and my JD-F2 Fuzz Face has a PCB from a Turquoise Jimi Hendrix JH-F1 Fuzz Face in it with two BC108 NPN Silicon transistors on it, I'm planning on doing some overhauling work on my Super twin this year, mostly re-capping it and replacing all the stock Carbon comp resistors in it for maybe some new metal oxides, and new Tone caps and etc, it still has some slight residual crackling noise going on, I'm also considering replacing all the original tube sockets as well, particularly the octal ones cause the six 6L6 tubes feel a bit loose and floppy, I'm going to be using my Super twin as a gigging amp not a museum piece so originality is not really my concern at all, I'm more concerned about reliability than any perceived "mojo".
