Fender substitute

Hi,

I have a Highway One Jazz Bass (the old one) and i really love it. But I want to buy another Jazz Bass, but not from Fender. I will have the new one and the HWY1 as the classic all stock one. The new one should be top notch.
Any suggestions?

- Valenti
- Warmoth
- Others?

I want it to be alder body, maple rosewood neck, very classic, but high quality.

Any suggestions?

Lakland, Valenti, Sadowsky, Mike Lull, Alleva-Coppolo, Guild Pilot, Hamer Cruisebass, Yamaha BB Series...

I think it might be easier to list the companies who don't make a Fender copy.

Do you mean that Laklands sound just more modern?

no, not at all. the main difference is the feel of the bass, the neck profile is different, the fretboard radius is different, etc. they still sound very similar but not exactly alike....i imagine the main difference is in the pickups. The new passive Lakland pickups are really nice IMO.

Sorry, but there are no subsitutions to a Fender! There are only copies....Honestly, I'd put up my Fender Deluxe Jazz FMT against any of the basses mentioned in this thread. They are just THAT good!

I would have agreed until I (stupidly) picked up a Sadowsky NYC recently. A bit more modern sounding, but the tone is better than any of my 7 Fenders.

Cost me a damn fortune.:bassist:
