Fender Sunn Mustang

All I found is Fender acquired Sunn in 1985 and they were made in India.

There are a few youtube review videos out there.

Yes, made in India I believe. They seem decent quality, but I wouldn't pay over the odds for one.

I did know they made some killer bass amps,
and I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't collectables (if you can find one).

No, the Mustang name is just a coincidence AFAIK, these are 34" scale.

They seem to be from the same factory as those old Encores, but they have a different neck (bullet truss vs heel). They're not ash, but are generally on the heavy side.

I remember the headstock being more Fender like than the Encore bass. And they were on the heavy side I wonder if a Fender neck would have fit these bodies.

They were dirt cheap when new - roughly 30 years ago - and I doubt that they've appreciated much. Most of the ones I saw were bundled with a small amp and sold for something along the lines of GBP100 ($160 at the time) which was the lower-end of an entry level instrument pricing.

When fender bought sunn, they slapped the name on amps and speakers and instruments that honestly didn't have much to do with the original sunn brand or concept, but that doesn't mean that they were garbage gear. Play it and see if the tone matches the name on the headstock

From the ones I've played they're fun as upgrade machines roughly equivalent to the Indonesian Squier Standard series. Nothing killer, but if you can pick one up for cheap and are willing to put some work into it (not necessarily money) then after a setup they can be good little basses. Don't expect miracles and don't pay any more than you would for an equivalent mid range Squier.

Their stratocasters go for about 80 euro over here... I wouldn't pay more.

I've seen a few of the guitars, but they were never sold here in the USA. Any that got here were bought elsewhere and brought here.

Never heard of them before. Judging by the pic, it was along the lines of an entry level Squier. Single ply guard, plain finish, dome knobs instead of barrels (most likely for 6mm pots), the extra two screws at the top of the bridge, the rough cut of the bridge pickup rout and the rounded pole pieces all scream Asian bargain. Interesting design, though, with a toggle and side jack. Might be a great bass for the price.
