Double Bass Fender TV12

Does anyone use the Fender TV12 (or even the 10) for double bass? Plenty of electric bass users, I'm wondering about double bass in particular. I'd love a review, can't find any.

Bassman 100
I listened to Ed Frieland play through the amp on You Tube. Essentially what you ar getting is a Bassman tone stack infront of a digital switching power amp. It's got a very warm tone so I would think that it would be like pluging your uprignt into a Fender Bassman. IMHO Ampeg-B15's sounded much better with a upright then the Bassman did. You should also check the input impedance, becaus it may be to low for a piezo.

Ric

P.S. I checked the owners manual and it's input impedance is 1 Megohm. That's workable for most newer pickups like the Realist and Full Circle.

Thanks for the info'. I had a look at U-Tube. Am I to take it that in your opinion it would not soud sufficently acoustic. I would love to see/hear someone trying out the TV12 in particular. I see your point about the impedance - I will check this out if I get the chance.

It's hard to say if if would be a good amp for DB so I can only guess and my intuition tells me it's not a ideal choice for DB. I'd certianly want to try it first to see how it works. It has no antifeedback or lo roll of to compliment piezo pickups.

There's been some positive feedback on the TV15 from a guy on another forum (search DBC), but that person's taste may differ from yours.

What styles of music would you use it for?

Church Music - Then also Wedding Band Music, Keyboards, Acoustic Guitrar, Lead Guitar, Live "well calibrated" drummer, (i.e. easy on the volume) I just fancied the TV12 from a weight point of view and it's appearance and the fact that I'm playing electric bass (passive American Fender Jazz.) Currently using PJB D-200 with PJB-6B. Needing more volume for Double Bass, or perhaps a preamp or a more powerful head. I saw a link to the new PJB D-600 coming out in January, that might cut it, or perhaps change to the Super-Flight Case. Any views ?

The PJB Super Flight case gets a lot of praise on these threads as a Double Bass Amplifier that's compact and sounds great. It's a really nice combo.

+1 And now you can put a PB-300 (basically, a 300-watt powered 6B) underneath the Super Flightcase or Flightcase, when you need more power.

As for the TV series, I have not tried playing upright through any of them, but I was checking these combos out at the Fender NAMM display at the same time as Bobby Vega, and he and I both felt that the TV12 had the most compelling tone of the lineup (for slab, at least).

Tom.

Hi Guys,
TomBowlUs, I quote you saying: TV12 had the most compelling tone of the lineup (for slab, at least).
Is this a typo, did you mean SlaP bass rather than SlaB bass?

Nope, you heard me right. I meant slab bass, as in electric bass (versus a double bass). It's a slang term.

Hi just a littler later than the original post !
I was busy saving. Bought the Fender Bassman TV12 today. Wow, love it. Almost went for the 15 - as they were both greatly reduced. Got it home, one point, the fan noise could be a problem for church use. I would really be greatful for any suggestions here. It's a continous fan, sounds like a low volume microwave fan. Is there a higher grade "silent fan" available ? Would it be possbile to disable the fan, as its been played at low volume & not continous ? Leave it on for gigs of course.
