Fender Vintera Precision for Punk?

I want to buy my first bass tonight and I'm hesitating between 3 basses.

1 : Fender Vintera Surf Green Precision (maple fretboard).
2 : Fender Mike Dirnt Precision
3 : G&L Fallout.

1 : Having a surf green bass is kind of a dream. I'm not sure if tonally it'll hold up. I don't know enough.
2 : Cool looking, love the road worn, rosewood available. A bit more expensive.
3 : Made in USA G&L Fallout. Hate the headstock and colors available.

You recommend flat round strings?
No way. Rounds. Flats are killer but you will not get the sound you want if your playing punk. You can always grab a set down the line after you get a better idea on what you are trying to achieve with your tone.

The Vintera is killer but it has a wide neck.

The Dirnt has a chunky neck and is typically heavy.

The Fallout is short scale.

I would go with the Fallout. It’s going to be the easiest to handle for a new player and it’s going to give you a ton of different tones. Good luck man.

Can't ever go wrong with a pbass for your first, and even your only bass. Always sits in the mix right, no muss no fuss - it's what it is famous for, in any genre (and it's perfect for punk or any kind of rock). The Fallout is super cool, but I dunno, the MFDs are a very unique pickup design---super hot, and not particularly plug 'n play. They don't necessarily have that immediate sit in the mix quality of a P, you may have to fiddle with the sound more. And you really need to decide if you want a short scale vs a regular 34" long scale--they're different beasts and not only sound different but feel very different, in particular in how they respond when you dig in. My 2 cents - get some kind of pbass.

Get the vintera and give her hell

Personally, I'd probably seek out a beat up but functional used bass of undetermined origin from a Good Will shop.

And flats, definitely flats for me.

If I were to pick one of the three in the OP I'd pick the G&L due to my fond memories of my L1K I should have never traded away.

You can’t play punk with a new bass! It HAS to be used. And have at least one thing wrong with it.

If you do end up getting a new one, you will have to ask the guitar player to kick it over, or the drummer to puke on it. Or they may just do that anyway. That will fuel your rage - and you’ll be well on your way. So actually you will be fine with any of these.
