Fender Vintera Precision for Punk?

I did some punk tours with some "famous" punk artists of yore, playing pretty big festivals and rooms. Even though I advocate for the OP to start with a P, personally, I actually used my Geddy most of the time 'cause it had rounds on it and my P had old Labella flats I never wanted to change:). The Geddy did the job quite well.

GG among them, possibly?

Any of them will do, but I’d highly stress trying basses before buying. Especially the short scale fallout. As a short scale player, there’s an adjustment in your playing and if you’re used to playing long scale (OP said buying first bass, not playing bass for the first time), then you may not like it.

absolutely nothing wrong with getting a P for punk.

Any Pbass will work for punk. Where you are new to bass, rounds will give a good sharp punk sound, however they will be rough on your fingers until you build up callouses. You might want to try D'Addario light gauge chromes (ECB 81). They are the best of both worlds in that they are smooth on the fingers yet still bright in tone. You need learn the down stroke technique of Dee Dee Ramone. This is very important for playing punk and it will give you the clean attack you need as well as drive the rhythm. Plus, is is a fun way to play. Good luck. ;)

A stingray preamp is a completely different monster though

Fun fact - his StingRay is wired directly to the jack with no preamp. For a more apples to apples comparison, you could consider Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. It’s not punk, but it’s an aggressive P tone also done with flats. But maybe I’m splitting hairs :)

For an easier, more direct approach to a punk tone I would agree that rounds are the way to go.

I play punk with Pyramid Flats. It all depends on the style of punk band and what you feel you should sound like.

I go for a more funky punk vibe, like newer Parquet Courts, Minutemen and Gang of Four, so it fits really well.

I'm looking forward to their upcoming release of Parkay By The Quart on Golden Dollop edition vinyl, 180 gram.

I want to buy my first bass tonight and I'm hesitating between 3 basses.

1 : Fender Vintera Surf Green Precision (maple fretboard).
2 : Fender Mike Dirnt Precision
3 : G&L Fallout.

1 : Having a surf green bass is kind of a dream. I'm not sure if tonally it'll hold up. I don't know enough.
2 : Cool looking, love the road worn, rosewood available. A bit more expensive.
3 : Made in USA G&L Fallout. Hate the headstock and colors available.
Green

Although, I would go for the cosmic green player plus. I feel that it not only looks better, it would be much more bass. It also looks better.

I would pop a black pickguard on it though.

This one of mine would be ideal for a punk band.
It isn't for sale, but just posting as food for thought.

I bought it for the price of parts, on the basis that the neck and/or body could be completely knackered, but the cracks appear to be superficial; I've had it a couple of years and it's perfectly stable.

The Fallout is MY favorite of those three, and it’s pretty versatile (3 mode switch), and it’s also the “nicest” of those choices. However, I don’t play punk music.

If however I did wanna punk out, and it was gonna be my first or only bass, I’d 100% get the Vintera P bass. End of that story. Period.
