Fenders on Amazon WAY Below MSRP... A Trap?

Wow, I think MusicMadeMeLLC disappeared from the site. The content on the link I posted has totally changed and all the items are now unavailable. A search for the OP's "fender sandblasted precision bass" turns up nothing, where as a few minutes ago they were listed.

Oh, yeah. I only order directly from Amazon. Screw the third party sellers. Any time I've done third party seller, it's counterfeit crap or Asian sized t shirts that are the equivalent of kid's sizes. (No offense to Asians, but American sizes are far more "generous".)

I tried to buy a spin bike this way. Third party seller, "contact us prior to buying". I used a phony email account that I purposely setup for such adventures. Emailed them. Received a reply a few minutes later in very poor grammar. The stunt was I call them with my name, phone number, billing address and credit card info. Someone from "Amazon" would call me back about a half hour later to confirm the sale by asking for the security code on back of the card and my date of birth.

I asked why I couldn't just buy it and pay directly on Amazon's site. The product and seller were long gone before ever getting back to me.

Thing was, the price wasn't too good to be true on the bike. $100 less than everywhere else after shipping. So just enough to look legit and grab your attention without coming across as a fraud.

As expected, order I placed was immediately cancelled. Talked to Amazon, was given a refund, reported the store and they verified no payment info goes on to the independent sellers.

No harm done, but still a shifty store. Feel bad for anyone who emailed them and actually fell for the ruse.

Gotta watch those 3rd party sellers and certainly never work with them outside the Amazon site, but I have never had a problem, that I can recall, with 3rd party vendors through the site.

The only bass I have ever bought through Amazon was a MTD Kingston Z6 six string last year, sold by Amazon, for about $650 less than normal selling price, must have been a return or something, but it's flawless as near as I can see. There was just one. I learned about it on the "Amazon Deal Thread" thread. So good stuff CAN happen. Just be sensible.

Same here.

Another poster said they only deal with eBay as if it's more trust worthy and legit but I've had several problems with eBay sellers. I've never had a problem with sellers on Amazon and I use Amazon a lot more than eBay. One might think the chances of getting ripped off would be higher because I use Amazon so much but that hasn't been the case.

My wife and I buy a ton through Amazon and never had a problem. Even through 3rd party sellers. Red flags were all over the one I mentioned earlier with the spin bike but I was very curious to see the scam. I'm a pretty savvy online shopper but can definitely see how someone could get duped into buying outside of Amazon's website. eBay is a crap shoot. There are a lot of legitimate sellers on there but also a lot of cons. It is a lot harder however to find the cons on eBay than on Amazon.

i use amazon (several years) and ebay (many years) and have never had any issues: i think some of it may be luck, some is caution/prudence, and some may be = not expecting 'too good to be true' deals to turn out well. having said that: i only use paypal for ebay purchases. and i much prefer 'fulfillment' by amazon when i make some choices.

but i think a lot of online sellers behave responsibly. you can almost 'smell' the ones that could cause trouble/issues, IMO.

I have bought one bass on eBay, and it turned out to be a great bass. I will probably quit while I am ahead, there. I did talk to the guy over the phone a few times beforehand and was able to come to the conclusion that he was a good guy, selling a good bass, and was on the up-and-up. I would not randomly trust eBay sellers, willy-nilly. It's just case-by-case and you have to use good judgment. Many, most, are on the up-and-up.

Agreed. eBay and Paypal protection are very good. I wouldn't hesitate very long to buy a bass from a seller that has no feedback depending on how badly I'd want the bass.
