Filling in a bass cavity?

I was wondering how you would go about taking a passive bass such as a standard jazz bass with the electronics in the front, ie not out the back, and the somehow covering up the cavity where the wires go without making them useless. The idea is Jaco's bass. I mean, his bass doesn't have any plastic covers on the back where the wiring goes, right? So that means it all must be up front, and yet the bass appears to be solid wood in the front. Or maybe there is something out the back. I've never really gotten a good look at the back, mostly because he is usually throwing it when you can see it.

Weird topic I know, but I was just wondering if it was possible, or how Jaco managed to do it.

are you talking about his jazz bass? all of the wires are under the control plate.

Really? How did they get to the pickups then?

There are holes drilled between the pickup cavities and the control cavity. The wires go through the holes.

Crazy. So, the answer really is there is no way to fill in an already made cavity? I haven't actually looked under the pick guard. What are the odds that it doesn't have one? a 2001 MIM jazz bass...

that year he had fender made their routes different and you can take the pick guard off and it'll look fine. now i with fenders i dont think you can

So are you trying to have no pickguard or control plate whatsoever, like this (i.e. just holes for the pickups and the knob shafts)?

If so, you could fill in the cavity, but you'd need t refinish the body. You'd be better off buying a new body like the one I linked above.

I'm looking to be a jaco Wannabe and have just a control panel, with no pick guard. Maybe... Could that happen? Thanks.

Sure. Then all you need to do is find a jazz bass body without that CNC hole in it.

What about those jazzes with rear routing? I can't remember the name, seen them somewhere before. You can just get a control plate for that and lay it over the top.
