Sorry, but it's just stupid.
Yeah, it isn't like they're playing days of wine and roses or alone together either. The question was he has these effects, what might compliment them and where he wants to go, not "Do real instrumental trios use effects?"
^ Good suggestion. Tap Tempo should be mandatory for bass delay – tightness, less muddyness.

By the way - I have wanted to do a bass/sax/drum trio of sort of groovy prog for a while now. So I'd be interested in giving your stuff a listen, if it's available.
Just started jamming in a guitar/bass/drum/vox format for the 1st time recently and absolutely love not only what comes out of it musically, but also how the musicians interact. With the 2-guitar bands I've played with, it always seemed to be something along the lines of "let's figure the guitar parts first, and we'll see about fitting in the drums and bass later", which is so NOT the way I look at being in a band. Anyhoo....
We're going the SRV/ZZ Top/Black Crowes/Stones/RHCP route, which brings me to look at my board differently. The VT Bass is now an always-on thing. The BOD is also seeing more action. I am thinking about selling the MS60B to get a good fuzz pedal (MXR El Grande comes to mind). Tinkering with the idea of getting an EQ pedal (Boss, Mooer or Joyo) and a chorus pedal. Given our style, I'm thinking this should help me fill the sonic space. That and the occasionnal more busy/melodic playing, of course.

For those of us who do not generally use effects, getting feedback from both sides helps. I don't think it was intended as bragging. Same way feedback on getting "effects" tones without a pedal should be a reasonable post. Where else do you suggest such threads be posted?

I agree. In the past, we've seen some nearly-righteous postings about the issue and those rub us effect junkies the wrong way. But there's absolutely nothing wrong about a mature and honest "should I or shouln't I use effects" debate, IMO.
My post was not aimed at ALL people who don't use effects, just the ones that think they are special because they don't use effects. I don't use them live myself, it just irritates me when some people try to decide for everyone else how the bass should be played. Too bad some TBers can't be supportive of different approaches rather than try to stuff everyone into the same mold.

And I would say the same thing every time people complain when non-effects users post in the effects area. Anytime I talk about getting a sound without effects, I usually get boulders tossed in my direction. People ask for feedback, they get feedback - don't complain when it is different than what you think you will get. As I have said numerous times, whatever works for you.
Quality musicians, good equipment, DYNAMICS... if that is not trolling from under a bridge, I am not sure what is...
On a less serious note OP, we recently had a thing on the Breeder's thread where we tried turning on all the pedals on our boards at the same time, it filled a LOT of space
Seriously though, maybe some dirt, you can always use it mildly, even a nice fuzz can give you nice low gain sounds. If you wnat to be able to get mild, a small simple blend pedal can be helpful. The OneControl Mosquite blender is super tiny and does phase inversion and buffering. Might be helpful get you some more width with the chorus.
