I've read here on TB that some people think their rigs sound better at lower practice volumes than at high ones. I started to think about my own situation and concluded, yeah that's kind of true.
But for some reason the last few gigs I've played my rig has started sounding really awesome, and I'm not doing anything different either. I play a Fender Highway 1 P through an SVT3-Pro and an Avatar B410 Neo, and with the tube gain and master volume cranked all the way and the gain at about 9 o'clock, this thing growls just the way I like it. It's started sounding so pleasing to my ear that I've removed my Boss ODB-3 pedal from the chain and just been plugging straight into the head.
Maybe I've finally broken it in? I have no idea. Either way, I'm really pleased with my gear - took long enough.

Sounds like you were always plugged into the ODB-3 pedal before the amp, correct? By removing it from the chain, you have gotten rid of a tone sucking monster! The pedal is not true-bypass, so it basically degrades your signal whether it's on or not.

If it is not that, it sounds like the B410Neo speaker has "broken in" and therefore can go lower and louder than it used too. Was it a brand new speaker?

Great feelin' ain't it?? I love my Avatar 410NEO too. I thinl you'll find that you'll be selling all of those pedals soon. Don't really need them for a good bass rig anyway. Sounds to me like your becoming a better bass player from it. I know that now that I have a good rig and a good bass it makes me play better than ever, without those equipment issues on my mind. Yeah the B410 Neo was brand new when I bought it. I guess maybe it is broken in now that I've gigged it a few times and really cranked it. I used to have my ODB-3 pedal always in the chain but would only use it if I felt like it throughout the night, sometimes never at all. Truth be told I never really knew how to use it, haha. :hiding:
No more effects for me. I do feel like I play better now that my sound is finally the way I like it.
It might be my strings breaking in too. I don't like the sound of really new, or old strings.
