Don't know if this is the proper category, but.......... I play bass for the Praise Group "Grace On Fire" My StingRay 5 with D'Addario Flat Chromes, bass, mid and treble all maxed, PU switch set forward. GK MB 112 treble and high mid set to 11 o'clock, low mid and bass set to 1 o'clock, contour on. When I need a little growl, I set the PU switch back. When the song lets me improvise some high register runs I set it to the middle. Nice deep clear bass, not muddy, and the higher notes ring out beautifully! I love my Ray! and even though my GK is not something appropriate for large venues it is perfect for where I play. It is an awesome little amp! And now I've got it dialed in just the way I like it! I run it through a Boss Tuner and Phase Shifter (to make the more meditative songs sound "Heavenly").
I know a couple guys who max the preamp controls on their Ray 5's and they always get a really good sound. For me, It boosts the volume too much. I use the series (front switch) setting, mostly. I'll bump the lows just a bit, cut the highs and adjust the mids accordingly. even using these settings, I have to roll off the volume a bit, to match the volume of my passive Jazz basses. I honestly don'y have "my" sound. I play covers and adjust for the songs.
