I take care of the audio-visual for my church which requires me to haul equipment around a few locations in my little '96 mustang. I always use house sound unless loud music is going to be played and I always use MY equipment since I know what abuse happens to church equipment. That being said, I finally updated my equipment to what works quite well for me. The main component: Behringer XR18, the most fabulous piece of audio equipment I've ever owned! Along with an ISOBLOX because house systems are notorious for being inappropriately grounded. In the end, it looks like this:
This event, I ended up using two wireless handhelds for Q&A, six wired mics for a panel discussion, and one wired mic for the soloist. The XR-18 and Furman power conditioner are in one 4u rack-bag (yes, that's a wireless router on top) and wireless mics in the 2u bag, tucked away in a corner of the rostrum.
And an old laptop running Linux (never crashes, unlike my Windows laptop) and a Win10 tablet.
All I need to do is add microphones, iPod, etc, and WALAH, sound system without dragging cables and snakes all over the place! Just plug it into the AC and the house sound with an ISOBLOX that makes the whole thing noise-free. To keep the cabling to a minimum, one of the wireless has a body back that I plug an iPod or laptop into so I can have those devices with me.
The big advantages for me is a quick setup, no one is made nervous seeing miles of cables being run all over the place, and a quick teardown.
My next purchases will be a couple of pairs of condenser mics, and 12" speakers for when a stand-alone system would be needed. I already bought a couple of Crown amps from when they were selling for cheap.
Just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone who needs an idea for a portable system. Everything was either re-purposed or bought on sale, other than the XR18, that was full price and worth it.
