Finally pulled SX (essex) trigger...

Do not buy 1/2" tuners for that headstock - measure first.
Certain SX basses came with 1/2" tuner holes, but most have 11/16" tuner holes.

I'm finding it difficult to picture Rondo selling you a neck WITH a nut, but no tuner holes....might you be referring to the screw holes to secure the tuners (I am thinking this since you said 'tiny' and also mentioned no string tree hole).

I haven't had a neck-only order ever come with the 'SX' logo (and I'ver ordered 4 ;) ).
Neck Bolt holes missing is a good thing - no, a GREAT thing. This way you can line them up to your bass and make them yourself - no chance of mis-alignment.

Correct! 11/16" is what I've got.

Yes, there are 11/16 holes for the tuning machines, just no holes to secure tuners. I guess I didn't really make that clear enough; sorry for any confusion!

no chance of mis-alignment.

If only that were true...

:D

Here's how it looks currently:

SXProject.jpg

The neck is at home, tuners are supposed to be here tomorrow. With luck (and some free time) I'd like to have it ready for a gig this weekend. More pics when she's together.

It looks good. It's very dark in normal indoor light, so much so that my family thought it was black. You really have to get some light on it for the top to come through.

Also smears pretty badly, but that's what you get when you have oily hands and a dark bass.

Bass is together, sort of. I ran out of time (gig this weekend and I'd like to have this available as a backup) so I slapped everything together with the old neck. It plays great and sounds huge, but I need to shim the neck a little because the strings are a mile off the fretboard. I've read this was a possibility (or certainty) so I'm not surprised or anything, just don't have time to fix it tonight. Will try to post pics sometime soon.

The holdup was my fault, I ordered the wrong tuners. I ordered new ones today from Warmoth, so hopefully they'll be here soon! I'm ready to be done with this little project. I'm not sure how much I've learned, hopefully enough that when I attempt my Warmoth project I won't screw up anything expensive.
