Finally weighed my Basses

As I have read many threads here on TB about the weight of their bass guitars, for the first time in almost 34 years I've finally weighed my small collection of basses. I borrowed a good set of digital scales & have just finished, weighing them and here are my results.

1964 Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass
4lb 10.2oz
1986 Peavey Foundation Bass
9lb 4.6oz
2014 Am.Std Precision Bass
8lb 4.2oz

I thought the Peavey was a lot heavier than the Fender "BUT", at only 1lb 0.4oz is not that bad at all happy days .

I find that same 1 lb difference between 8 and 9 lbs strangely telling too - when I weighed my two Yamahas I was expecting the difference to be twice that, *at least*. After the BB, the TRBX feels like a guitar.

Funny how much just a one pound weight seems to make on a BG! My previous short scale Sterling was only about 1lb heavier than my full scale GSR100ex but that weight difference was surprisingly very noticeable to me... I have a new shorty Sterling replacement coming today, and while I didn't return the previous one because of it's weight I'm still hoping this one might be a bit lighter.

It's crazy unless I'd weighed them I would have argued that the, Peavey was at least 2lb heavier than the Fender. Mainly because the Fender feels a lot lighter than the Peavey when you pick them both up' I'm glad I weighed them now .

I've had the same experience. Somehow, a 9 pound instrument feels much heavier to me than an 8 pound instrument. Maybe it has to do with the distribution of the weight.

I put it down to the Peavey being made of Solid Maple, but they are both great basses to play.

Yup, weight distribution is big thing.
Fender-ish bass guitars have ok distribution when you can balance it around 17. fret. That means, to me, that strap will be weighting me down close to my back/spine, not on my left shoulder, which gets exhausting fast.
