Not sure if you'll find one at the $800 range (never say never), but also add the EBMM Stingray SLO Special (J-neck)

Another one to look at is the newly reborn Kramer D1. I think the nut might be a little closer to 1.6 but Kramer is famous for slim necks so that may help split the difference. They look cool. Plus I'm waiting around for someone to give some feedback. I grew up with Kramers that were always super fast basses.
Plus they look really cool. Bonus points for not putting dots on the finger board, ain't nobody's neck bendy enough to look at the top of the fingerboard anyway.

Great looking bass but was never happy with the tone circuit.
Couldn't recommend it with a clear conscience ,I sold mine earlier this year
The first one that came to my mind besides MM Stingray was the Ibanez ATK 300 but then I saw that you said you didn't like Ibanez.
I have an ATK 300 and for me it's a killer bass that does the 1 humbucker thing very well among covering other tones. Have you tried one and if so what was it that you didn't like?

Fair enough. I'm happy with mine and have been for years, though I'll admit I'd like to someday get a different bass for some variety.Great looking bass but was never happy with the tone circuit.

Oohh I was looking (drooling really) over this a while ago but couldn't find any definitive opinions on one of these on TB either...

I have this crappy old thing with one humbucker:
Sterling Ray 24ca. I just picked up the 5 string version, and while it's not as impressive as my Ray34 it's still a damned fine bass which ticks all your boxes

Haha, yeah I would KILL for a Wal... but it is 500% of my budget soooooo...
Actually the price I paid for it was in your budget, but that was in the days before a certain Mr Chancellor started using them and prices went silly...
Asymmetrical, one-piece maple, slim D-shaped profile. The neck is very comfy.
