Find Me A Single Humbucker Bass!

Okay, so this is for the far-in-the-future situation of me getting another bass... okay, okay I'm just bored and would like to drool a little.

But hypothetically, if I were to be in the market for a single humbucker bass for $800 used or new, what should I go for? My two requirements are a 1.5" nut/jazz-profile neck and 4 strings, but other than that if it can get me that aggressive, growly sound like a single humbucker bass should, then it fits the bill (just no Ibanez - not a fan anymore!). What are my (best) options?

Thanks in advance for fueling my fantasies!

If you have the time to wait, you can VERY occasionally find a Warwick Corvette FNA in the $8-900 dollar range. If that was my price point I'd be hard pressed to find something better that meets your criteria. The neck may be just a hair over 1.5" if I remember right.

There are two SBMM possibilities for the 1.5" nut. First up, the original Ray34CA, the 2-band version, had the 'SLO Special' neck with 1.5" nut. The other option would be one of the original series SB14, based on the EBMM Sterling, which also had a 1.5" nut (and a 22-fret neck). Sadly both are long discontinued so used is the only realistic option.

The other possibility, if you can add a few more $$, is a used EBMM Sterling H.

Keep your eye out for a used EBMM ISA Sterling. Amazing basses that tend to be undervalued on the used market.

Maybe a Flea Signature Active Jazz Bass? 1.6" nut but everything else fits.

I love the MTD Kingston Series Artist model. I have two that I love dearly. They have been bulletproof for hundreds of gigs for me over the last 6-7 years. That model has been discontinued, but there plenty of used ones out there, and some new B-stock are available from the MTD Reverb page.

Incredible versatile and comfortable. Sounds awesome!
Secondhand costs about $800.
Worth checking it out.
