Finding The Correct Truss Rod Nut

Hello forum!

Recently I bought a used 2001 Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe 5 string MIM for a really low price.

To fix it up, I have to replace the Truss Rod Nut which had been previously worked on by a very careless person.

Anyways.. I searched on eBay and ordered myself this item:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FENDER-MEXI...172?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item1c2c8732dc

and it turns out it's not the correct fit! Sadly, no one in my country can increase it's size so that it fits the Truss Rod's tip, so I come here in search of knowledge!

Where and/or how can I find the proper Truss Rod Nut for my bass?

Keep smiling,
Dan

Ah the elusive truss rod nut for the Fender standard 5-string. The thread on that truss rod is a 12-28 thread. Yes that is a real thread. Very uncommon but it is a real standard thread. Most Fender necks use a 10-32 thread.

You have a few choices. 1. Try to find a replacement truss rod nut from Fender which for some reason seems very hard to do. 2. Have a machine shop make you one. 3. Buy a 12-28 tap drill and re-tap the truss rod nut you just bought out to a 12-28 thread. Option 3 is probably the easiest. You can buy 12-28 taps off of ebay for cheap. PM me if you need any help on how to do it.

If you're wondering how I know all this? Do a search for my "truss rod repair" thread where I replaced the truss rod on one of these necks through the heel.

Good luck! PM me if you have any questions.

I'll try the 5/16'' and see if it works.

Thanks a lot for the link, sir!

Cheers,
Dan
No problem. I'm not 100% positive that's what you're looking for, that's just the response master google gave to my query.:D You might try e-mailing them or waiting for someone a little more knowledgeable than myself to come along.

EDIT: ^Those would be the "more knowledgeable" individuals.
