I had a good (drummer) buddy in high school and college that I gelled well with and we would jam in his basement a lot. One day he decided to just stop returning my calls because he thought I hated his fiance'. And that was that. Haven't had a good drummer to play with since.

This is Drummy, aka DrumBum, aka Animal, aka Michael. A man who enjoys life to the fullest. Also a gigantic pain in the ass. Always the last one back from a break. Texting his girlfriend between songs. Generally clowning around. He brags about having been fired from every band he’s been in. For all that, an incredibly disciplined and musical drummer. I love him like a brother.

I've played with my current cover band drummer continuously in various projects for at least 15 years. We are pretty much symbiotic. He's an excellent rock drummer and a very good drummer overall. Most of the time we are locked in. We enjoy playing together and both feed off each other. I think that's what it's all about.

Communicating well with any decent drummer is a skill to develop. Don't wait for 'the one' but rather take ownership of improving your own communication skills. That can transform a reasonable drummer into a relationship with 'chemistry.'
