I hate to break it to you, but I frown on TABS as a means to teach beginners (or anyone else for that matter). I think it's an easy way to get beginners into a really bad habit.
Of course, there's always the TAB forum for those who prefer going that route.

well i never said they where the best way to go, they are a good way to get the info others need/want on this forums

how else would you sugjest for me to tell others what im talking about?

when you figure that out, your argument will have "legs to stand on"

and i dont mean that in a rude way at all..... just saying.

PART V - The final 15 notes. WOOHOO!!!

Ok guys, here are the last 15 notes. All the letters were starting to get to my eyes (too much clutter!), so we're doing away with the "F" & "P" when indicating which finger to fret with & which to pluck with.
So, "FI-PM" which meant fret with your index and pluck with your middle is now "I-M". Also, as you might have guessed, "O" means an open string (don't fret). Ok?

Here you go...



That's it for the notes. We'll explore this riff some more soon. In the meantime, keep practicing.

That's a nice file there G-man! Wish I had know you when I first started bass. Perfect for gluing
onto the fret board of a nojazzloco style Craftsman bass.

You'll have to excuse NJL up there, you lost him as soon as you showed the first C ....

Good stuff, Xavier. Anything that helps beginners learn while they play something that RoXoRz is a good thing that deserves a bump. :)

Maybe you could ask DURRL to add a link to this in the main thread at the top of the page?

First of all, Xavier, a big THANK YOU for taking what clearly was / is considerable trouble to post this lesson.

We have been playing bass for about the same length of time although I had about 25 years off in the middle!!!

Fretless is relatively new to me. Even newer is that I am learning to play without anchoring the plucking hand thumb on a string.

Anyway, I need to ask......why use the thumb to pluck? That's something I've never ever done (= don't slap etc, either). It seems that if I move towards that method my R/H technique will need altering yet again. The dificulty I have with that is that I don't play near the bridge: it's not my sound nor style.

I'd appreciate some guidance, please...........

I noted that Xavier posted yesterday in off topic that he would be away for about 2 months for personal reasons, though he did expect to be back after that.

You may want to post this as a new thread with the appropriate title to generate some discussion of the topic.

Edit: you might want to put it in the technique forum ... just a thought.
