Double Bass Fingerboard inlays

Dots don't help intonation, they can be used as an aid in shifting.
I had my luthier install red-brown-ish wood at the octave and octave + 5th positions as up there there is not really much in regards to physical position aids.
So another question might be: should we all play necks without the body joint where we find our "D" or Eb" or what the case may be, and without the scroll which we use to find 1/2 position?
I think not.
But to each his own, right? I sure don't use the pos markers for anthing but the largest shifts up there, and for being somewhat closer to that pianissimo high "F" .
I still have to use my ears to intonate it though. (besides, the nearest dot is at the D)

My 2.5 cents.

They all have markers. I am sure there are many more. Definitely not a replacement for good technique. But a nice insurance policy when you have an off day. : )

Impressive list, but I wonder: Did they have the markers installed, or were they simply on their basses when they acquired them?
