Double Bass Fingerboard Planing???

hey guys,
i have a 3/4 hamburg upright that is killer..i play jazz on it and about two months back i realized that the g string was buzzing at the area between the Bb "third position" and the d when i played hard..i've heard from a coule of people that there is just a bump on the fingerboard that can be repaired by a luthier planing down the fingerboard in that spot. i am just wondering if anyone else has had this done..and if so what kind of cost and procedure they had to go through???

It's usually is in your best interest to have your luthier plane the entire fingerboard instead of just trying to eliminate the one high spot you've noticed. What frequently happens is that as soon as have the "high spot" removed and bring your bass home, you find that there is another one somewhere else that was not noticed previously because of the first one. That means another trip to your luthier. Cost will vary depending on how much time is required and rates vary greatly from one area of the country to another.
