My previous 8-string (see post above) has a rosewood fretboard and looked awesome when freshly cut. It darkens so much over time though, that it just looks dark and flat by now. Padauk however seems to retain most of its redness.

How mayn basses have you built? How long have you been building? I am getting ready to undergo my first build.

On and off for about 15 years. Took a long, forced brake of about 5 years before starting again recently. I finally feel like they are good instruments that I can have others play without embarrassment

The first time I saw Anthony Jackson's Contrabass (about 17 years ago) , I thought it was the ugliest thing ever
