just to chime in.. it doesn't look like maple for the wings.. it looks more like spanish cedar.. and would explain the deep filler in the pores..

You've done the best you can do. Hopefully it'll work. Let us know.so, I've sanded down a lot.. whatever is there in the wood is going to have to be fine.. ha. i wish i would have measured the thickness of the wood at different points (pot holes, bridge cut out corners.. ). I can see that it is thinner and I'm going to call it sanded down well enough.. Tomorrow I'll finish sanding through the grits down to 320 and then wipe oil on lightly and quickly.. Hopefully that will keep it from sinking down too far and getting super dark (though it may be harder to control the evenness that way (i'm prepard for that)).. I'm going to pass on the bleach. Hopefully it all works. I'll post some pics. HA.
