Firebass 700

Hey all. Finally getting back into bass and started playing gigs after some time off. Unfortunately, I'd forgot how ridiculously heavy my amp is! It's the peavey firebass with the white face (VI?). I use it with a peavey 12" cab, and I'm starting to to think it's all a bit unnecessary. So I'm now looking at buying a combo. But first things first, I need to sell my peavey. The trouble I'm having is, I don't have much of a clue to how much it's worth. I bought it 8 years ago with 2 12" cabs for £350 (I no longer have the second cab). Could anyone help me putting a price to it?

Most any combo out there will be heavier than the individual pieces you've got now. Exchanging what you've got for a combo would be a step downward in capability and heavier too.

Maybe get a lightweight Neo cab instead of the old 12" . By the way, are you sure that's a 12" ??? Looks like a 15 to me.

My guess is that it's worth more to you than anyone else. Why not keep it as a backup and buy a micro amp with a small cab? Maybe a 2x10 with neo drivers. There are several choices available.

Nashvillebill you may be right about it been 15". Ive never actually measured it :| I might sound like an idiot here, but if I were to get a smaller cab would it have to be peavey? And how much difference would a smaller cab in terms of sound be? Sorry for been an absolute noob haha

No shame what so ever.
Do you like the way it sounds?
Maybe unnecessary but something smaller could sound much different, and you may not be happy with it.
What kind of tone stress you looking for?

Nope it does not have to be a Peavey!

A neo 2x10 could actually sound deeper than your 15--or not! It depends on its design and what speakers are in it.

What sort of sound are you after? Classic Motown , or hi-fidelity, or???

I love the way it sounds to be honest, and it's taken me a while to get it sounding so good. So if I could use a smaller, lighter cab and not alter the tone too much that would be brilliant. As for the tone I use, I'd say it's a classic fender rocky sound, maybe a bit more low end. The punchier bass sections in the songs come through really clear too, but maybe this isn't too much about the set up, and more about the playing?

A few years ago I started selling off all my old peavey amps and cabs. Thinking I'd save space and have more durable speakers.
I've been chasing the sound of my old TVX115s ever since.
So be cautious, saving size can cost tone.

Yeah I would be gutted if I lost my sound. I might stick with what I've got for now. I was a bit hasty earlier as I was in a bad mood from carrying the heavy lumps though crowded rooms, up and down stairs, through tight doors... TWICE!!! Haha

Might try out a smaller 210 as mentioned above, whilst keeping my 115. Seen a ashdown MAG 210 for sale near me. It's rated at 250w / 8 ohms and my head is rated at 270w / 8 ohms, so this will be fine? Is 250w a bit quiet whilst playing next to an extremely heavy handed tub thumper?
