Firepod routing question

Okay, so supposedly with the Firepod you on the back of channels 1 and 2 there is a in/out series that will allow you to route signal to outboard equipment. So, last night I plugged in my Peavey Kosmos Subharmnonizer into the channel 1 in/out, hoping then that the mics and drum signals coming into them (plugged into the remaining mic inputs, apparently you loose the input that you are running outboard equipment with) through the Kosmos. It apparently does not work like that, and there is no physical way such as an AUX or BUS send on Firepod to do that. So does anyone know how to route signal through outboard gear attached to the Firepod? Am I thinking that the Firepod should do something that it is actually not designed to do? Thanks.

I have a firebox, not a firepod... I just looked at the presonus website though, and it's vague about that insert loop on chans 1 and 2 on your firepod. It would seem that you SHOULD be able to do what you want... the presonus forums have been very helpful for me in the past for stuff like this.

The way I do this stuff on the firebox is by routing the signals I want to effect out through 3&4, through my effects box, then back into the firepod on some free inputs. I only do this for editing as it isn't really useful for recording, since it eats up two extra inputs... which isn't a problem since I tend to record everything clean anyhow.

I'm pretty sure that what happens when you plug into teh back on 1 and 2 is that it turns off the 1 and 2 inputs on the front. I think this is meant to be for boutique preamps that you leave permanently wired to the 'pod.

inputs 3-8 do it differently, and the 1/4" TRS on the back is a send return for compression and other effects.

So it turns off the Presonus preamps and you have to plug the mic into the boutique preamp? So there is not way to send a group of channels to an outboard effect such as you could go with a mixer?

hmm. Only 1 and 2 get defeated, and only by the line in. When I read the manual, it says something about plugging in to those line inputs in the back and how it defeats the preamps on 1 and 2

What messed me up, was that what was labelled "line outputs," that bank of 8 1/4" outs.. those are actually TRS send/returns, not balanced outs. I Tried to run a snake out to a mixer to make a great headphone mix for my band, but no luck. I think you could get it to work as just an unbalanced out, but you'd have to play with it and maybe have adapters going on and so forth.

Anyhow, take all this with a grain of salt as I am still a 'POD newbie for the most part, and with two in diapers, I haven't gotten out to really try to get those outs and ins doing anything too fancy.

Keep messing with it, and let me know how you set it up eventually.

So the "line outs" are actually insert points? That's misleading. I never played with these features when I had my Firepod. If you want to convert them to outputs then you'll need a TRS to TS cable. On the TRS end short the tip and the ring, that way your send and return signals are the same.
