First Act, anyone?

Does anybody own or play a First Act bass? I'll admit I had a bias against this company, considering I bought a toy harp for my daughter from Toys R Us made by them, so I assumed that they only made low end toys, but they have some cool looking basses on their site and what appears to be a quality custom shop. There's a Gibson RD-style looking bass called a Delgada that looks pretty cool.

From what I understand, they make 2 kinds of axes: Really expensive, nice high end stuff, and really cheap, crappy Walmart stuff.

Actually, they have mid-range stuff that's pretty decent too. A couple years ago they were in a promo w/ VW to give away a guitar with selected VW models. I've ended up with a few of them. Made in China (of course...) but once set up properly they're really pretty decent instrument. Definitely a big step up from the Wal-Mart stuff. A great bargain too, they were easy to get cheap on ebay with all the non-guitar player VW purchasers dumping them.

Ah. Then I stand corrected... (as I sit here.)

i want a Delgada HELLA bad. HoF practices where one of my bands practices -- maybe i can ask Jeff to check his out sometime.

I think these are hot as hell myself. Would love to try one out. I bet they list for $1200-$1500 though, so would be outta my range for a long time to come.

Man, not to be a fanboy, but it's cool you get to jam next to HoF. That band is absolutely crushing. Would love to see them live.

Upon playing and temporarily owning two of those guitars at different points I'd say they were in the quality range of a decent "Squier Affinity" for the sake of an analogy.

I wouldn't consider those models mid-range by any means. For me mid-range quality is something like a Lakland 55-01 or something.

They do make some really nice custom stuff, their showroom is in downtown Boston, and there are definitely two lines. but the delgada bass is really well constructed, and like I said, if the factory options don't suit you, they will make one to your specs, and you can order it and consult with the guys right at the shop.
