My first was "Martha" .. A '99 Squier Standard Series P-Bass Special. Candy Apple red/rosewood. I still have it. I started playing bass at 11, but didn't receive this one till I was 12 or 13.. Played the crap out of it, practicing and the usual highschool punk band/battle of the bands type stuff. Never made it anywhere with a band, but it was definitely worked in.

The neck is bowed and cracked in several spots, the truss rod I'm sure is broken, typical chips out of the finish, and covered in stickers. Barely playable and I cannot get the action anywhere near comfortable for any one, hahaha. I don't even want to know how many people's DNA are on the fretboard.

I loved this bass and still own it today. I plan on refinishing it, new pickups/electronics, new neck (Fender OEM replacement P neck), etc. I'll have to dig it out and get a picture of it. I basically grew up on this bass and was accustomed to Jazz necks. I never knew anything different because I didn't get my second bass till about 5 years later. After owning my SUB Stingray, having a more Precision neck feel, the OEM Precision neck is going to be my choice, maple/maple.

Something I always wanted to know about bass players, I wonder what bass they started on. It's cool to know where bassist come from. The first bass I ever got, was a Used Dean Edge 09. (I still have it bcause ive only been playing bass for like 2 1/2 months) What was yours?
It was a Kingston Violin Bass. I loved that bass and played it to death. I was really in a confused state of denial when it started falling apart. That's when I realized that basses are not all created equal... Some basses are better than others :)

My first bass was purchased.... yesterday. I think I may be officially the newest bass player here. :) An Epiphone Thunderbird IV, picked it up at Guitar Center after trying a bunch of others. Just really liked the sound (what I was able to produce, at any rate), how it felt and it just looks way cool. I'm looking forward to practice now.
Welcome to Talkbass. Glad you chose bass!

98 p bass my dad gave it to me for Xmas it was the last thing he gave me befor he passed away the fallowing August. it has been modified several times and is on its 4th neck. I can be vary ruff on this bass at times. It's stange I baby the rest of my basses but this one tends to get damaged often

First bass was a no name hollow body with 1\2 inch action it seemed like that I bought for $40 from a guy at a storage unit.It needed to be rewired but I never got around to doing it and would just sit around trying to play on it.

First bass that actually got me playing though was a Squier P bass starter pack.
